What with all the publicity and shame brought by Stanley's escapades, tough new ethics rules have been enacted to punish the many lecherous creeps (a.k.a. state lawmakers) who prey on young interns, right? Wrong.
Here's what legislative leaders are doing instead. According to Channel 4's story, they are prohibiting interns from performing personal errands for lawmakers. You'll recall Stanley not only had sex with McKensie Morrison, but he also had her cleaning his apartment and picking up his dry cleaning. That's where lawmakers have decided to draw the line. They aren't barring lawmakers from asking interns to do these chores, mind you. They are telling interns not to do these errands if they are asked.
Asked why the new rules don't bar lawmakers from having personal relationships with their interns, House Democratic caucus chair Mike Turner replied, "That should go without saying," admitting "it is wrong" but claiming "it has happened rarely up here."
So there you have it. That's what our legislators have learned from this sex scandal.

I hope that a majority of the "spouses-back-home-in-the-district" who are married to members of the Tennessee General Assembly would take note of the above post - this type of masked legislaative inaction is very similar to the "ethics" legislation sponsore and passed a couple of years by TNGA Majority Leader Jason Mumpower that still cloaks the identities of the girlfriends that TNGA members bring along on their lobbyist paid "educational" trips...
When the adults - that is to say, Democrats - finally reegain control of the Tennessee General Assembly, they should work to enact true ethics legislation (mirroring current federal laws pertaining to members of the U.S. Congress) requiring each TNGA member to fully disclose the identities of each member's guest(s) and the exact dollar ammount spent for each TNGA member and their guest(s) to attend events/activities sponsored by lobbyists.

Apparently, we citizens are happy to elect ego driven predators, because we do it all the time. More than that, we are not sending them angry letters telling them they have to maintain at least the same set of morals they demand of us citizens.
I think it is a wonderful idea to put the burden of behaving on the interns. After all, they are young, inexperienced, probably immature, and - hopefully - HOT! Sorry, thought I was a legislator for a moment there.
The notion that the rules should apply to the interns, and not the presumably adult legislators, is underwhelming to say the least. Do you suppose in their own little polyester world they think that now they can blame the interns when they get caught in flagrante delicto?
С точки зрения креатива все супер, но если копнуть глубже то даааа...
