Yes, Virginia, there will be a hotel in the Music City Center, says Mayor Karl Dean: he's just being mum on fine points such as who's running it, who's paying for it, and whether the hotel and convention center plans will be unveiled next month jointly or separately. ...A former Vanderbilt researcher's data-switching hanky-panky is pushing PETA to call for an audit into the university's publicly funded research. ...Is a gunman targeting homeless men on Fifth Avenue North? One man survived a bullet wound to the mouth; another man Nov. 3 wasn't so fortunate. ...Sounds like Matt Collins, the Davidson County Republican Party vice chair facing an ouster attempt, isn't going without a fight. ... Is likely Best Picture contender Precious a brutally honest portrait of dire inner-city life, or "liberal ghetto tourism" that yet again portrays blacks as pathological victims and victimizers in need of light-skinned saviors?
