Morning Roundup: Hotel Funding Unclear, Phone Sex for Students and More

Posted by Jim Ridley on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 8:30 AM

Who's paying for that proposed convention center hotel? The City Paper reports that it's hard to read Mayor Karl Dean's statement last week that he "doesn't want to force something that would be a mistake." Does that mean public backing or not--and if so, what are we going to do once we build our hotel on Ventnor Avenue? If it makes money, says the CEO of the Tennessee Hotel and Lodging Association, what's the difference: "As long as the taxpayers don't have to pay for it, what's the problem?" No room for doubt there.... Embattled Metro Parks chief Roy Wilson says the mayor's office not only knew about his department's cost overruns several months ago, they didn't want him to close the facilities causing some of those expenses....A fight at a Clarksville nightclub ends with a Fort Campbell soldier dead after a bullet passes through the trunk of his friend's car, and four men are arrested for the crime....Have you accepted Chris Johnson as your personal savior? Even if not, we give thanks for three straight wins--and the Titan even won Terrell Owens' jersey right off his back.... A new school calendar inadvertently sends Metro students an odd message: Learn more about prominent African Americans--by calling a phone sex line. But that's no stranger than the roster of black heroes, which includes President Barack Obama, former U.S. Supreme Count Thurgood Marshall, and the calendar's publisher....Two manhandled Sears shoppers say there's a worse shopping day than Black Friday: Violent Saturday....A physician declares unequivocally that President Barack Obama was born in this country. The good doctor's name: Bill Frist....

Sunday football became really entertaining when our ever renowned Bud Adams whipped a digitus impudicus at the Buffalo bench. Ranked right up there with left over tee shirts worn by Titan team workers emblazened with the legend "Houston Oilers" and game helmets with oil derricks pasted on them.
Since Roger Goodell was sitting with Adams in his box, he probably witnessed the Bud's bird performances. Would love to see Bud get fined, reprimanded, etc. After all, there's been a distinct status hiccup in NFL's carefully orchestrated persona and Ole Rog needs to do something about that pronto. Plus, it would give us something else for Bud to entertain us with.
