According to a report by UT Police Lt. Dana McReynolds, the Knoxville Republican was wearing a "Luchador's (Mexican wrestler's) full head mask" during the game against South Carolina despite publicity before and during the game that Halloween masks were not allowed inside Neyland Stadium.... McReynolds and a Knox County Sheriff's Office deputy found the masked man and asked him to step into the portal.Wait, it gets better. The officer who had to deal with him was "curious about this odd behavior." So are the rest of us, sir, so are the rest of us. (Knoxviews beats us to the obvious question.)

Quite obviously Campfield is an idiot and brought this all on himself. However, I'm not sure why, once he complied with the request to remove the mask, he wasn't allowed to go wherever he wanted without interference from the officer. If the officer hadn't pursued Campfield (how did he know Campfield wasn't merely going to the restroom or the concession stand?), the incident wouldn't have escalated.
Still, it seems like there's something missing here (other than Campfield's intelligence). Also, did he wear the mask into the stadium, or put it on once inside? Was he alone at the game? And why have I willingly wasted minutes of my life on this?
I'm going to guess that his behavior was even stranger than the officer alluded to and that's why the officer followed him.
As for why he was behaving strangely, that's anyone's guess.
Compared to some of his political tomfoolery, this is relatively sane, though hilarious, behavior. And it beats having to contemplate Campfield having sex, right?
It's funny listening to the people defending him. Conservatives are all about law and order until it's one of their own, in which case the cop was obviously on a power-trip.
I don't know why the cop followed him, but I do know that all Campfield would have had to do was say "Yes, I'm going back to my seat" or "I'm going to go meet up with someone in another section" or "I'm just going to the concession stand to get some nachos" or "I'm going to the men's room to do whatever it is that Republican legislators do in the men's room."
Something is rotten in Denmark. It's weird enough that a grown man wore a wrestling mask to a football game after he was told no to (even on Halloween), but there was some other reason the police followed Campfield. Was he acting drunk? High?
Drunk jerks are even bigger jerks when they're drunk. This guy is a professional jerk - it's what he does. Do you think he just leaves that quality at the office when he walks out the door? As this latest of his many episodes illustrates, the answer is no. This is just more evidence that being a jerk is deeply ingrained in conservative DNA.
Campfield is a great guy and this is such a non-story.
I believe he's basically a teetotaler.
So when does confronting police security harassment qualify as peculiar behavior?
Go Vols! Go Campfield!
You should really go back and read the hyperlinked officer's report at the Knoxville News Sentinel: a deputy was notified by a mother with two small girls who were both terrified by the masked Rep. Campfield as even these very young children knew that Halloween masks prohibited at the October 31 game at Neyland Stadium...
The officer's report goes on to state that the masked Campfield was not sitting within the section of Neyland Stadium as designated on his ticket stub (Section LL)...did the masked Rep. Campfield follow these two little girls into Section B???
It might also be informative for PITW to post an image file showing the UT Neyland Stadium seating chart...
Scary Rep. Stacey Campfield's ticketed Section LL is for a cheap seat (relatively cheap anyway) immediately near the South Ramp while he was observed by a KCSD deputy seating in the much more expensive ($79.00 to $125.00) Section B.
I have not yet located an official online UT Neyland Stadium seating price list, but I have found one ticket vending web site indicated that the face price of Campfield's UT Halloween game ticket was $48.00.
Does this action by the masked Rep. Campfield constitute a theft of services from the UT Athletic Department/UT Volunteer football team?
Doesn't someone need to call for a mental evaluation? It's not too many steps to "Low-Tax" Looper territory for this guy.
1. Replay this same scenerio with a man of Middle Eastern descent and the officer would have been called a hero.
2. What would have happened had he walked into a bank with that mask on?
3. If no masks were allowed at Neyland, then that goes for everyone -- even a dumb ass like Campfield. Some of the same people who are defending him are the main ones who claim lawmakers are "above the law."
4. I blame the media for most of this. I think you guys have an orgasm every time Campfield talks. All you are doing is giving him free publicity.
