Socialism in America: RNC Official Blames Alexander

Pith loves a good political feud, and one is developing between RNC chair Michael Steele and our very own Sen. Lamar Alexander. It started in Washington behind closed doors (of course!) with Alexander telling Steele to stop meddling in public policy, and now it's spilled into the public eye on Politico, with the RNC vice chair defending his leader. Name-calling is next we hope.

Alexander didn't like it when Steele in late August unveiled a seniors' "health care bill of rights" without consulting congressional leaders. Apparently, it was a faux pas for Steele to defend Medicare. What kind of Republican is he, anyway?

"We are elected to set the policy," Alexander said. "But in my view, the national committee's job is to create the environment in which Republicans can be elected to set policy. Michael Steele said that was exactly his point of view, so I think we see eye to eye on it."

RNC vice chair James Bopp Jr. fires back today, saying it's this kind of thinking by Alexander that's led to the fine mess we're in now.

"Unfortunately, we have just come off two electoral defeats where the Republican Party followed Alexander's prescription -- just let the politicians decide policy -- and abandoned the Republican Party's conservative fiscal and free-market principles. As a result, many Americans became disillusioned with the Republicans, and now America is paying the price with President Barack Obama's march toward socialism."

That's right, by his failure to stand firm on conservative principles, Alexander is causing America's downfall. On second thought, we guess the name-calling has already begun.

"just let the politicians decide policy -- and abandoned the Republican Party's conservative fiscal and free-market principles."
Exactly how is Steele's defense of Medicare upholding any free-market principle?

Lamar always was a RINO. After voting for all barrys spending programs I not only didn't vote for him I voted for the other guy to increase the power of my vote.
These RINOS have to be oposed in the primaries to send a message when they lose the faith of the people.
You dems should be doing the same thing.
This is our government we are not their subjects.

And exactly how is Steele's (Republicans ended slavery so we could wind up with this guy?) defense of public parks and public libraries upholding any free-market principle?
All Democrats are commies.

Amarxica. This is where we're headed.
I sincerely hope the Republican Party takes Amarxica's advice and runs on a platform of doing away with Social Security, Medicare, the FCC, FDA, USDA, food stamps, etc. Indeed, now is the perfect time for America to hear the message that "there are just too many people with their hands out" and the National School Lunch Program, school breakfast programs, Medicaid, WIC supplemental nutrition programs, and similar are UN-American, socialist, and were probably invented by Bill Ayers and his minions at ACORN with funding from George Soros.
Please, tell me how I can help you spread your message. America needs to hear it!

Talking about entitlement programs, how can you get a tax refund/credit when you don't pay any?

Um, this list of government "socialist" programs is pretty much where we were in Ronald Reagan's America, too.

There certainly are too many people with their hands out - whether anyone wants to hear it or not.
There was a story on the CNN Money web site not long ago that stated 47% of the population would not be paying any federal income tax in 2009. The other 53% who are paying sure aren't getting 100% of the value of government services provided by federal income tax revenue.

And your point is Gilbert that there are even more extremes in income after W's years, right?

Uh no Turnip head, the point is that there are way too many people getting a government mandated free ride off of other people's money via transfer payments.
How much money anyone makes vs anyone else doesn't have anything to do with it and isn't any business of the federal government in the first place.

I like it, thanks. But, I, for one pay my taxes which the freely elected congress enacts and agree that there no better way to help the unfortunate than through the government. Have a great day!

"Talking about entitlement programs, how can you get a tax refund/credit when you don't pay any?"
The same way that you can take federal tax deduction for state tax paid: because federal income tax is used to credit payers of sales tax, income tax, etc.
idgaf, why don't you stick commenting on Tennessean articles and other sites where your ignorance won't be so painfully exposed?

The Biggest Bloated Entitlement program is the taxpayer assisted spending for (metro council also)Congresspeople and Senators for LIFE and abt Lamar Alexander, nopers he's no socialists ,he is prorape and just voted NO on Sen Al Frankens bill to protect whistleblowers from their Contract Employers such as Haliburton who's male employees gangraped a young woman and threw her into a shipping container. He is no RINO as Dems always vote for Women and Womens rights ,Employee rights ,Civil Rights,Health care Reform and what does Republicans vote for? Tax cuts for the very rich and to go to war so Haliburton and their pac buds can reap more taxpayers monies ,so to end it with this thought the poor gets poorer while the rich get richer off the backs of the Middle Class Tax payer!

Amarxica: You're absolutely right! The School Breakfast Program just screams "SOCIALISM"! I mean, our hard-earned dollars are going to helping children have something to eat in the morning so they can LEARN on a full stomach? What is the world coming to?
Those poor kids need to be told the truth: they're not good enough for breakfast, plain and simple. If they want to eat in the morning, they should find some other means, such as creating a good friendship with a rich kid at their school. And I don't mean that they should mooch, either. They should be allowed to eat, but only after they get done serving the rest of his friend's family. That way they get cheap labor, the poor kids get to eat, and everybody learns a valuable lesson on hard work, or at least gets to watch someone do it.
And don't get me started on Social Security. That's almost got the whole word "socialism" in it. And Public Housing? If you can't afford rent, then the streets should be good enough. Get a cold enough winter, or a hot enough summer, and pretty soon there's a lot less of those moochers to worry about.
That's why I vote Republican. Too much Socialism around here... You want to talk about the National School Lunch Program? As soon as I get back from hurling my guts out from just thinking about it.
