It was them cute babies in that petri dish. They needed to be uglier.
"Cobb basically ran as a Republican"
When given the choice, voters will pick the real thing. Maybe if a real Democrat had run for the seat giving voters a real alternative things might have gone differently.
C'mon, SB. It's a really conservative district. A "real Democrat" would have been trounced.
was the writer of this piece crying as they wrote this? my lord, change the name of this rag from Nash Scene to Nash Bias
Chip Forrester and Mike Turner failed. They recruited a sub-par candidate. They wasted money on awful advertising.
Give us all a break. Why not find out what those who vote, or don't vote, think? The political machines, Demos or Repubs, all talk to themselves. The important issue is how to let people know that showing up and voting counts. What do people care about? Health care, food on the table, jobs, the internet, cable TV, drugs, their grandkids before they become teens. Ty Cobb knows what people get delivered to their homes or businesses not unlike the internet. Pat Marsh probably actually knows people. I truly don't have a clue which one is more conservative.
A "real Democrat" would have been trounced.
A 12-point split isn't a trouncing?
Chip Forrester and Mike Turner failed. They recruited a sub-par candidate.
Wait. I thought that Bredesen was going to be the big picture guy, the candidate recruiter, etc. What happened to the Camp Monteagle accord?
"Gov. Phil Bredesen says he hosted a meeting last week with four of the state’s five Democratic congressmen and several prominent fundraisers to discuss the changes.
It was agreed to have the party led by Chairman Chip Forrester handle grass roots organizing and communications, while the separate entity will be responsible for fundraising and candidate recruitment."
Outside of Davidson and Shelby Counties, Tennessee voted 65% for McCain less than a year ago. These voters are now showing that they are becoming more and more comfortable voting for Republicans in local races as well.
In 2010 the Republican areas of Rutherford, Williamson, Sumner and Knox Counties all pick up an extra TH house seat due to population growth. These seats all come from Memphis and rural West TN which is four seats moving from Democrat to Republican before any lines are redrawn.
I truly am disappointed in this election and the people of my county should know better, but will shall see the true importance of voter turnout and democrats... when Reps start taxing and re-zoning, the truth will be exposed...
as far as conservative, well big spenders can't be too conservative, either party is a disappointment...
Not sure if this is a conservative or liberal issue, more of a "Ty Cobb had no business being the candidate issue". Let's vet our candidates on more qualities than if they have the same last name as the previous occupant. Like, perhaps, they are semi-qualified to run a race and have a built-in supporter base.
I agree with the comment "Ty Cobb had no business being the candidate issue". But no one in the these three counties would even run againt him in the primary. There is the shortcoming of the Dem Party as a whole.
It's my understanding that Pat Marsh wanted to run as a Democrat and contacted Mike Turner. Turner told him that he already had a candidate. Then Jim Tracey told him they'd take him. And the rest is history. The woman that ran against Curt Cobb was going to be the Republican candidate until Turner pushed Marsh into the arms of the Republicans.
"It's my understanding that Pat Marsh wanted to run as a Democrat and contacted Mike Turner. Turner told him that he already had a candidate."
It would be VERY interesting to know if that is true.
Sounds exactly like something Mike Turner would do. He'll probably talk about it on radio soon.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Eat it libs! This is nothing compared to the a** whipping you're going to get in 2010. Yeah baby!
Wait! This was everything that Chairgimp Chipper was supposed to clean up. The Chipinista were going to fill TNDP with shiny, happy people holding hands.
The Democrat leadership (That’s you, Myke Turner) were going to listen to the Chipinista on candidate recruitment. The Chipinista were going to raise millions online for those candidates. Those candidates were going to run as Barney Frank’s ideological clones (a.k.a. “Real Democrats” to the Chipinista)and magically win over rural Tennesseans.
Looks like reality spanked Chairgimp Chipper and his bubbly little Chipinista.
BTW, how much money did the Democrats waste on this loser candidate?
"It's a really conservative district. A "real Democrat" would have been trounced."
So why is it a "Democratic disaster" then if anyone would have been trounced?
Running to the right of the Republican candidate is a failure of the openly gay Chipinista 5th column! Tennessee Right To Life is bringing down the TNDP from the inside! Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain! Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain! Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!
Believe it or not, Mike Turner's Beer Belly is telling the truth.
1. Ty Cobb ran a sorry ass campaign, sponsored by Chip the Dip and Mike Turner. He didn't even show up to half of his events. Name recognition alone isn't going to get it folks -- visibility helps.
2. Pat Marsh is well known in the district. And yes, contrary to popular belief, he's not a conservative (some even call him a RINO) and could have easily ran as a Democrat -- and still won the race. Friends from the area tell me Marsh actually thinks for himself -- a novelty in Tennessee politics.
3. If the Dems want to win, start running as Tennesseans instead of Democratic-Republicans. Scrap the entire state party leadership while you're at it. Hell, this entire state is being held hostage by a bunch of stupid ass wingnuts from both parties.
Well, it's going to be hell being in the majority in this state. With the legislature firmly in republican hands and no democratic governor to blame, you'll soon hear from voters who want you to address unemployment and the economy instead of guns and abortion. Budget cuts? Sure, but every constituency used to a nice fat slab of the state budget is going to put a target on your back if you make cuts effecting their interests. I wish you all the best of luck, but don't be surprised if the wave of anti-Obama-ness in Tennessee isn't enough to keep you in power.
I am from Tennessee and love living here, but our state politics are a joke. Simply put, they are sad and backwards. Tennessee, like most southern states, will be the last stand for an antique ideology like the Republican Party. Most of this country and the rest of the world are moving very far away from that type of thinking and it will take a while for Tennessee to wake up and catch up. Republicans are becoming the minority they deserve to be. Not in Tennessee just yet, but just about everywhere else you can see the signs of an ideology on its way out. And like the Confederate States of old, they will hang on to horrible things as long as possible mostly because they are scared of change and anyone who is not exactly like them. Maybe if they pray hard enough God will stop progress and the world will let them stay around for a brief second longer. But as we all know, that will not happen. The thing that lets me go to sleep soundly every night is the fact that the grandchildren and great grandchildren of the Republicans in this state will be the generation that throw away Republican ideals and move toward politics that are about progress. It will be their own flesh and blood that vote them out of our history for good. You can not stop this type of change you can only slow it down. Like slavery, like a woman's right to vote, like so many other things that the south has held onto so tightly only to see it slip away as time moves by. It will not happen quickly, it will take time, so be patient, the signs are there in front of you. A good example is our President winning the Nobel Prize. People keep being negative about that, but I think it was a great gesture that speaks to a world that wants to be united. It was a prize given to one man, but I think it was intended for our country as a whole.
Enjoy tearing up what I just said Republicans, enjoy it while it lasts.
What issue(s) are you talking about Alex? That was beautiful prose, very uplifting indeed, but when you mention slavery and a woman's right to vote, one would reasonable assume the issue(s) that concern you are of the civil rights and social variety. So, pray tell, what "antique ideology" and "politics that are about progress" are you referring to?
C'mon, SB. It's a really conservative district. A "real Democrat" would have been trounced.
Yes the district is SO conservative that the guy who won was a former Democrat and he beat the guy who had the endorsement from the pro-life lobby.
Must be upside-down day!
Hate to break your illusion world but it was Republicans who ended slavery (Lincoln) and gave the fair sex the right to vote.
Yesm, it sure was. What the heck has happened to them since then? When did what's good for my pocketbook (no new taxes) become what Jesus wants? When did 'if you're a good Christian, you'll vote like this!" become the norm? And when did these people, confronted with need, learn to sneer, "Get a job!" I agree with Alex, we're behaving like the glorious Confederacy around here. And we are being quickly outdistanced by the rest of the United States. So when Obama comes to get our guns, we'll meet him at the state line! Oh come on, we already fought this one, we already lost it. But the huge collection of overprivileged people sitting in the middle of our state, we'll keep doing what we're doing for a while now. Until, as Alex says, the grandchildren of these voters vote them out.
I get so sick of Republicans touting they ended slavery. Well, they also helped usher in Jim Crow:

You are just as bad as the Democrats that use Civil Rights for the Black vote today. All of you would drop a dime on the voters to gain some power.
Sellout bastards.
Human cloning is crazy. Democrats are bad at crazy. Leave it to the pros.
Lincoln was bad for state's rights. They really have not existed since he pursued the war to stop sovereign states from leaving a voluntary union.
Republicans claim to be conservatives but they have done as much if not more harm to individual rights than anyone else collectively in the history of this country.
