Morning Roundup: Jackson Takes Down Bloomberg; Dean Takes Down The Asylum

Gun-loving state Sen. Doug Jackson of Dickson scoffs at New York mayor Michael Bloomberg's gun show crusade, calling it "just grandstanding" with "no substance." ... Although reporting on Mayor Karl Dean's move to close the fairgounds has emphasized the demise of flea markets and auto races, the pro wrestling-industrial complex is mourning the loss of a venue that "housed professional wrestling events for decades and was the original home (as the Asylum) of TNA." ... In other news from the world of pro fisticuffs, the Predators open their home season tonight with fewer season ticket holders than last year.

As many as one-third of parents in a national survey don't want their kids to receive the H1N1 vaccine. Meanwhile, an H1N1 pediatric death in East Tennessee offers a tragic reminder that parents nervous about side effects should just get their kids the damn vaccine as it becomes available. ... Here in Nashville, hospitals and the county's health department will begin administering the vaccine in mist form to health care workers; arrival of the injectable kind is still date uncertain.

A legal news bonanza this morning: An Alabama woman faces federal charges in the Carillo kidnapping case. ... Metro's parks board averts a lawsuit over religious activity in public parks. ... The U.S. Supreme Court declines to hear an appeal by students in Maryville challenging a school dress code ban on Confederate flag T-shirts; school wins, shirts lose. ... An elementary school PTO president imprisoned a few years ago for embezzling PTO funds is resentenced yesterday to a shorter term, which counting time served compels the judge to order Julie Buchanan's release. ... Belmont President Bob Fisher says his university's newly announced law school will focus on a few Nashville-specific tracks such as entertainment law, intellectual property, and health care. No word yet on possible specializations in school desegregation law or convention center real estate deal making.

"The Motor City Machineguns came out to debut their new entrance music but were jumped by an angry Samoa Joe. Joe called for Lashley to come out so Joe can kill him. Lashley hits the ring and they brawl all over the building. Joe jumped off an alcove and put Lashley through the spanish announcers' table.
*ODB defeated Tara to retain the TNA Knockouts title. Awesome Kong tried to kill Poison the Tarantula with a sledgehammer but Tara stopped her."

You should have linked to the City Paper column about the crazy Erin Andrews story by esteemed TV reporter Andy Cordan. It's commentary at it's finest. He writes just as superbly as he reports on TV. Kudos to the City Paper for making available to it's readers this man's valuable insights. Not linking to it in the Morning Roundup is, as Andy would say, "just crazy." It's also "messed up."
