Today's Blackburnism: Gasbaggery Gone Wild

  • "You can't accuse me of exhaling greenhouse gases. I simply won't have it."
On WWTN's Ralph Bristol show this morning, the ever-quotable Rep. Marsha Blackburn displayed her marvelous grasp of science when she weighed in on climate change legislation:
"What they are trying to do is declare CO2...to be a noxious poisonous greenhouse gas."
How we configure public policy to address climate change is a reasonable subject for debate on which reasonable people can disagree. It is, however, unadulterated ignorance to suggest that the labeling of CO2 as a greenhouse gas is a political rather than a scientific act. We know that Rep. Blackburn often likes to say whatever nonsense happens to pop into her head. Still, her constituents -- even her deeply conservative aficionados -- should be embarrassed to be represented in Congress by someone who turns a blind eye to basic axioms of physical science that are not in dispute.

(See, for instance, the clear and unambiguous assessments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.)

So is Bruce Barry saying that the Intergovernmental Panel and the EPA are not politically motivated? Please. Talk about "unadulterated ignorance."

The chart of greenhouse gasses in the IPCC report shows the concentrations have increased 35% in the last 250 years. That means we've gone from about 0.028% to 0.037% of CO2. If you believe this is an emergency, there are only two immediate solutions. One, people must live without energy-consuming modern conveniences. (Pith, I nominate you to freeze your ass off this winter). Two, we must return to the population level of 1750 of about 800 million. Destruction by nuclear detonation of China and India would be the most cost-effective places to start in our efforts to control greenhouse gas emissions caused by people.
I really do believe technology will come in time to save us from the dreaded CO2. Our energy progression should be natural gas and propane, hydrogen, then nuclear fusion. Problem solved in forty years. What could be the motivation behind Chicken Little's cries of imminent disaster? Money plus Power equals Control.
I'm personally unconcerned about carbon dioxide, because the Sun causes much more pronounced variations in climatic conditions. If you're worried about CO2, plant a tree, dammit!

Nice try Senor. Go to the links provided for the EPA and Intergovernmental Panel and you will see numerous references to how those groups are coming to the conclusions they are, "politically motivated" or not. Maybe you can provide us the rationale behind Blackburn's conclusions. Maybe her website provides references as to why she believes CO2 is becoming politicized.

Marsha is also worried that they've declared the sun to be a hot, dangerous ball of gas.
What do you want to bet the Congressman doesn't believe in human evolution either?
She - the Congressman - can say anything she wants to her people regardless of truth or logic because they don't care.

You guys who make fun of my congressman Marsha Blackburn make me sooooooooo mad!!!!! MARSHA IS RIGHT!!!!! Did any of you libtards pop your head out the door on Sunday? I know you godless heathens don't go to church but if you did go outside to worship the trees, or whatever it is you people do, you would have seen that it was unseasonably chilly out there. If you climate change lovers are so sure of your-selves, how do you explain that? I'm still waiting. I'd be able to hear the crickets chirping waiting for an answer if it wasn't so damn cold for them. And Marsha knows CO2 is not a noxious greenhouse gas because, like me, she puts it in her coffee every morning and nothing happens. So put that in your crackpot and smoke it libtards!!!!!

Let's not forget this little Marsha jewel:
"Let's agree that we're going to have PAYGO enforcement. That we're not going to cry 'emergency' every time we have a Katrina, every time we have a Tsunami, every time we have a need for extra spending, that we don't go call for a special appropriation that allows us to circumvent the PAYGO rules."

What was the full quote? "..." indicates that something was excluded, right?
Fair question. Yes, a phrase was excluded only because I was memorizing and dictating the quote on the move and didn't catch exact wording. The included part is exactly correct. The omitted part was a subordinate clause along the lines of 'which is something we breathe out every day.' It had no material bearing on the loopy assertion that Blackburn was making, so I was comfortable excluding it (with ellipsis) since I didn't have it verbatim.

So is Bruce Barry saying that the Intergovernmental Panel and the EPA are not politically motivated?
Please. Politics can be implicated in just about everything in life at some level. But in this case we are talking about rather elementary scientific factual consensus: the simple reality that carbon dioxide functions in the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas, meaning its presence in the atmosphere contributes to the greenhouse effect. EPA officials under administrations of both parties have accepted this, and on the matter of my post the IPCC is presenting a descriptive statement of scientific axiom. Sure, politics has fingerprints all over the process of formulating public policy around these matters. But are you, senor, joining the congresswoman in denying the basic scientific reality that underlies the policy questions? Yes or no?

Well she's exactly right C02 is carbon dioxide. Plants breath it in animals breath it out. It's been happening since the beggining of time. I guess if you went to public school, you would be fooled.

"What was the full quote?"
Bruce's memory is accurate, too kind even, as Rep. Blackburn kept going on in the same vein that CO2 can't possibly be harmful because it's what we breathe out. Therefore, she said, it's silly even to consider regulating CO2 emissions. Of course, the equally uninformed radio host obligingly agreed with everything she said.

Well Bloomburg Financial and other media outside the US has been reporting the Bankster bailouts, that both Bush and Obama rammed down our throats, is going to be in the trillions... EVER wonder how any of this is going to be paid back??? Can you say cap & trade???? I know somebody here can still rub two brain cells together. THen once we are a third world, the SDR's come in.

I understand you all want Congresspeople to be as eloquent as the tele-propped-up Obama, but I want to know what the fascist libtards think on these important topics.
1. If the atmosphere is 0.037% carbon dioxide (source: IPCC propaganda), will I realize any savings on my home heating bill?
2. Is it possible future technology will render this argument meaningless?
3. Will Crap-in-Trade make a dent?
4. Will college girls be able to sun themselves in January any time soon?

bb,
I'm joining the Congressman in saying that nothing, NOTHING comes out of a governmental entity at any level that is not heavily politically motivated, the scientific "evidence" not withstanding. I'm also saying, if you need clarification, that Al Gore is a dangerous fanatic with a saviour complex. Clear enough.

"Al Gore is a dangerous fanatic with a saviour complex. Clear enough." Al Gore has made a fortune off of this. He owns the carbon trading company. talk about starting life on 3rd base thinking he hit a triple,- Even with his Dad's political clout, he barely got a journalism BA. Daddy got him into Vandy law school, where he flunked out. Now we are supposed to believe he has a PHD understanding of the environment.
Crap & trade is just a huge pr driven crises put out by multi multi billionaire David Rockefeller and his IMF world bank and world government buddies. I went over to this when I saw that hot picture of Marsha Blackburn. But this anonymous fella is definitely on to something. Most of my time has been spent trying to prove Obama is a Kenyan and the lunar landing was faked, but I may need to rearrange my priorities. I am definitely moving to have this be a major topic at the next conspiracy convention. But one question: who is grampa? Is this some kind of code name?

And one more thing. I can understand why you are writing as "anonymous." You've got to watch out for both Al Gore and David Rockefeller and some shadowy world bank operative called "Grampa." But just be careful, they can still track you down. Let me know if you need some help staying "underground."
