But, but, Obama said that if we passed the stimulus bill then unemployment wouldn't go over 8%.
What happened?

Well, the Bush Recession of Historic Proportions was even more severe than expected. Without the stimulus bill, the national unemployment rate might have reached 15% or 20%.

Republicans say Obama promised stimulus would keep unemployment rates below 8 percent
"What we can rule on, however, is whether the Obama administration "promised" that unemployment rates would not rise above 8 percent if the stimulus were passed. We could find no instance of anyone in the administration directly making such a public pledge.
What we saw from the administration in January was a projection, not a promise. And it was a projection that came with heavy disclaimers."

Alexander claims that cap-and-trade will cost consumer $1,761 a year
"But back to Alexander's original claim. His statement that households will pay $1,761 in new taxes every year is based on a blogger's incorrect assumptions and overly simple math. The estimate does not account for revenue that will be returned to consumers in the form of rebates and other efficiency measures. Furthermore, the number is based on old numbers"
