Jackson Wrestles with Rayburn on CNN

Posted by Jeff Woods on Wed, Aug 19, 2009 at 2:56 PM

See Sen. Doug Jackson, one of the most audacious grandstanders in the legislature, accuse Sunset Grill owner Randy Rayburn of mugging for the cameras. Jackson thinks Rayburn is using his guns-in-bars lawsuit to generate business.
"Let me just tell you the most dangerous place to be in Nashville is between Randy Rayburn and a TV camera. ... For such a sinister bill that poses an imminent risk to public safety, so he claims, he certainly doesn't mind combining marketing of his restaurant with this very issue on the 6 o'clock news."
The response from Rayburn: "I'm concerned that this may cost me business but I'm going forward this with this because I believe it's poor public policy." h/t No Chaser

All I know is since this bill has passed I've gone out to eat every day. When I went to Mr. Rayburn's resturants, I was able to enjoy my meal in peace. Every other restaurant I've been to since July, including fast food joints have turned into Western-style shootouts and I barely got a bite of my sandwich before the gun play ensued.

Actually, the "most dangerous" place to be is between a drunk driver leaving a Hillsboro Village bar and trying to have a safe trip home.
The wild west pabulum from a swill-peddling opportunistic restaurant owner is a joke.

I know what you mean. Just the other day, I was eating at Logan's. The waiter forgot to bring me more rolls. I had to bust a cap in his backside.

Randy is and was a trail blazer for Nashville in terms of locally-owned, sophisticated restaurants. I think it's time to go back and support him more frequently. I'll take my mace: I'm pretty quick on the draw if other tables are getting too raucous.

If you go to the Sunset Grille website, they're selling gift cards for 30% off. Maybe Jackson is right.

Um, is Sen. Jackson going to next push for a law that he can shoot his kid's boyfriend? Sen. Jackson is a bully - always has been - and for him to personally attack Randy Rayburn pretty much proves the point. Randy Rayburn has contributed much to the Nashville community and is otherwise a good-natured and sophisticated host. We need a DEMOCRAT to take Doug Jackson's seat!

Speaking of bullies...
In '97 I witnessed Metro cops beating a man, already in handcuffs,(Rodney King style)in front of Sunset Grill while Rayburn's bunch scattered like scared chickens.
If that's Randy's version of restaurant security, for public policy matters, I 'll throw my lot in with Doug Jackson.
Meredith, if you are going to libel from behind your computer screen you might as well put your name up. Because there's no difficulty learning who you are, and at least that way you won't be considered a "cowardly" liar.
The Democratic Party is damn lucky to have Doug Jackson.
