Oil Lobby Planning Astroturf Rally in Nashville

Taking a page from the conservative plants disrupting thoughtful dialogue on health care reform between politicians and their constituents, the oil lobby is planning its own display of astroturfed outrage.

According to a memo obtained by Greenpeace from the American Petroleum Institute, the oil lobby is asking its member companies to "recruit employees, retirees, vendors and contractors to attend "Energy Citizen" rallies in key Congressional districts nationwide in the closing weeks of the August recess."

According to API's memo, the company has identified 11 states in which the astroturf protests will disrupt town hall-type meetings between Congressmembers and constituents. Nashville will be one of those places. So if you attend one, don't be surprised if you hear, "NO CAP AND TRADE!" That person was probably bused here on API's dime. To wit:

According to API's memo: "To be clear, API will provide the up-front resources to ensure logistical issues do not become a problem. This includes contracting with a highly experienced events management company that has produced successful rallies for presidential campaigns, corporations and interest groups...Please treat this information as sensitive...we don't want critics to know our game plan...we will contact your company's coordinator to distribute the information internally and to coordinate transportation to the venues..."

Produced? Couldn't have picked a better word myself for most of the shenanigans taking place in town halls everywhere. Grassroots my ass.

Surely no one is surprised! But please alert our local (non-Scene) media who never fail to fall for this stuff!
I wonder who the "highly experienced events management company" is and if there will be a local contact?

I agree with Dennis Kucinich on Cap & trade. It's total BS and is way for Fake libs like Al Gore and his buddies in the Council on Foreign Relations to get richer. From everything Ive read, the two or -what's left now 3 oil companies, support Cap and Trade. Anything that will curtail supply is very very good for them. It was Daddy Bush that practically stopped domestic drilling and put the little guys out of biz. Russia, China, India have said that they will not go along with it. So Big oil will sell what's left to them. Cap and Trade is just a tax to pay for the 24 Trillion bailout. The founder of GP quit a long time ago because he said that it was no longer about the enrironment.
We need to focus on real environmental policy and look at what the Dupont's and other mega corporations are dumping into our oceans, rivers and air. Forget cow farts. Drive the river rd between Baton Rouge and New Orleans sometime you will see the real problems. Also check out GMO foods. See what happened to one visual artists- Google (Strange Culture) when he tried to take them on.

We've been genetically modifying our food supply for thousands of years.
Is swapping genetics somehow ok if done in the field, but not in a lab?

They didnt have the growth hormones and viruses that spliced the genes 1000's of years ago. Then add the carcinogen preservatives they put in most everything you get at Kroger or Walmart. Ever wonder why cancer is going through the roof depspite how much we think we know? If you get the Sundance Channel watch "Strange Culture"

You know what astroturf is made from, don't you? Oil, that's what! Damn right!
I'm an Energy* Citizen and proud of it!
*excludes solar, wind, hydro, electric, geo-thermal, or anything that might be invented in the future that the dirt people will call "green." By energy, I mean oil - just oil.

"thoughtful dialogue on health care reform between politicians and their constituents"
For the "reform" supporters (being charter members of the sponge, leech and parasite class), "thoughtfull dialogue" boils down to nothing more than whining for a handout of other people's money.

That's right, the U.S. health care system is just fine the way it is. No real problems at all with it. All you whiny libs who think it needs "reformed" should just move to Cuba where your hero Fidel will give you all your health care for free! That's what Dems what, because they're all commies! Spongy, leechy, parasitic commies! Want health insurance in America? Get a JOB that offers health insurance. It's that simple! But whiny libs don't want a JOB, they just want a handout!

The only people I see astroturfing are lying Obamabots, esamples including many examples of planted questioners, union thugs and fake doctors, none of which you'll ever see reported in such a lame rag. To Scene reporters Astroturfers are simply people they don't agree with. Typical lousy reporting and distortion of the truth.

"That's right, the U.S. health care system is just fine the way it is"
Nope, it's not fine.
But, of course, 100% of the things that are wrong with it are entirely due to all the pre-existing government meddling that is currently in place.
The only "reform" that is needed is to completely unwind all of it and let health care be a pure commodity available to those who can pay for it.
Health care was never a "right" to begin with.

Hear that, all you parasitic poor people with your pathetic low-paying jobs? Hear that, all you losers who got laid off and your health insurance went with it? Awww, you got sick? Awww, you had a bad accident? Tough shit.
Hey, all you libs love Darwin, don't you? Well, there it is - survival of the fittest - and the richest. The sick leeches can die and the rest of us will be better off! Of course, most of those that will die will be commie liberal Dems! Awww, too bad!
