Freddie O'Connell, an internet strategist and web developer, uses search engines to look up information on just about everything. Movie showtimes, driving directions, and information about local businesses. Unfortunately, he often can't find basics like hours of operation or menus for local businesses. So he's doing something to help by creating SearchViz, a Nashville-based inbound marketing agency. "In the past few years, search engine optimization and marketing have become buzzwords for the industry almost as big as social media," explains O'Connell. "Inbound marketing brings all of the strategies and techniques together as an approach to getting found. SearchViz is all about the process of findability. We want people to be visible to the process of search." O'Connell is excited about the maturation of the Web. "There was a time when only large companies and enthusiasts had websites. As content management frameworks and niche platforms developed, though, more and more businesses and individuals were getting online. But the era of just having a website created by a web designer is over. We'll be involved in the design process, but we're not going to treat creating a website as a one-off event. We're focused on measurement and improvement. We want to build your audience and extend your reach. We're focused on growing your revenues, whether through advertising and affiliate revenue or real-world foot traffic." SearchViz won't only focus on content publishers, though. "We know from experience that advertisers are just beginning to get comfortable with online advertising. As more of these dollars shift online, we want advertisers and content publishers both to be getting optimal value. So we can help you with pay-per-click campaigns if you're an advertiser through services like Google Adwords, and we can help you leverage Google Ad Manager and AdSense if you're a content publisher." O'Connell was hired as the Director of Technology for The Nashville Post Company in mid-2007 and became the Internet Strategist for SouthComm, Inc. (which also owns The City Paper and other publications) in January of 2008 after an acquisition. "We've had tremendous success building traffic and audience at the properties under the NashvillePost.com brand, and this local focus is something I'm interested in helping a broader range of properties develop," says O'Connell. "I've become somewhat of an addict, though, to the puzzle of making new media sustainable, and I expect to have some media companies as clients." O'Connell left his role as Internet Strategist at SouthComm, Inc., a regional niche publications and custom publishing company, effective Friday, Aug. 7th.

Why would I mention Liberadio(!)? My academic and professional background have much more bearing on and relevance to SearchViz than my ability to jaw about politics.
But thanks for the shout-out!
Freddie, of course you wouldn't. But it's my sworn duty to find something to be a smartass about!
