The Metro Council has just voted 20-14 to ban guns in city parks and playgrounds. Tonight's vote was the second reading, which is the one that matters. The third reading is usually perfunctory.

Council members, including Eric Crafton and Jim Gotto, made the same tired arguments during the debate. All those courageous, highly trained Quick Draw McGraws out there with state handgun carry permits will make our parks safer.

"Handgun carry permit holders are not gunslingers," said Phil Claiborne. "They are not vigilantes. These are the people who are basically the cream of the crop."

We guess they weren't paying attention when the Violence Policy Center, a gun control advocacy group, reported this spring that concealed handgun permit holders have killed at least seven police officers and 44 private citizens in 31 shootings over roughly the past two years. In Tennessee this year alone, they have killed four people. That includes the motorist outside Memphis who grabbed his pistol and shot another man in a fit of road rage during an argument over how close their SUVs were parked.

UNLICENSED guns kill more (MANY more) people than the permit holders.
The bad guys will CONTINUE to carry weapons in the parks, and no law will stop them.

Why not just ban spics? White people don't cause the problems, spic gangs do.

If our parks are so unsafe that they require individuals to carry guns...Why not just stay at home???

NikkiV,
If our roads are so unsafe, why not stay home. You do have car insurance right? Why?! Why do you need to insure your car?! Because you have no clue when an accident might happen.
Jeff, you keep spouting the same talking lines from the VPC. You know they are part of the BCTPHV right? They have an agenda, and change the facts to fit their report.
Show me details on all the instances where HCP holders were involved. You can't. VPC doesn't want you to know they twisted the facts to make HCP holders look bad.
