Among some genuinely heartrending comments about growing up with a drug-addicted mother and absentee father, Titans back-up quarterback Vince Young promises the following in this month's Esquire:
I don't know when I'll start again. But I will be the next black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. And I will be in the Hall of Fame.
We're all for a good boast every once in a while. Especially from a professional athlete, whose job requires a healthy ego. But just off the top of our head, here's a list of black quarterbacks that have a better chance of winning a Super Bowl before Vince Young: Donovan McNabb Jason Campbell David Garrard Ronnie Brown (playing out of the Wildcat formation)

David Garrard? Give me a break. The Jaguars are always billed high this time of year only to fade as the season goes along.
I would say the odds are greater Collins breaks his leg, VY steps in and the Titans win the Super Bowl as opposed to David Garrard leading the Jags to the promise land.

You're right about this, JG: Young almost certainly plays for the better team. Therefore, it's more likely he'll get the opportunity to win a Super Bowl before Garrard. The Jags QB, however, does best Young when it comes to playoff victories (1 to 0).
Also, no matter how much you believe in yourself, I still think it's a dick move to say you're going to be in the Hall of Fame when you haven't played in a year and your numbers, as is, fall woefully short of Cantonization.

I don't know about this, boys. With the salary cap -- or worse, no salary cap with the union contract about to expire and you're playing in a small market -- the shelf-life for elite teams is pretty short. My guess is the Titans only have a year or two to take their shot before they start losing guys for cap problems. The only teams that stay good for any length of time are the extremely well-managed -- see Pittsburgh -- or the teams with franchise quarterbacks -- see New England. Everybody else only gets a brief moment in the sun.

What I can't understand is why everybody seems to think the Titans are going to cut VY after this season. Then what'll we do for a QB? The guy obviously has talent. Fisher should figure out a way to use it. How about the wildcat formation? Or hell, just make the guy a tight end. Anything. Actually, he'll probably be playing quarterback this season. What are the odds that Collins isn't injured?

Woods, they'll cut him before they pay him 14 million. Brush up. JG, it's "promised land" not "promise land." brush up. Vince Young is not going to Canton, unless for a visit. As far as a Super Bowl goes, Trent Dilfer did that. Young is not emotionally suited to be an NFL QB. He's lacking in the real qualities it takes. Plus, his mechanics -- arm and leg -- are woefully inept.
