Dean Cuts Off the Greedy MP&F

McNeely Pigott & Fox has created a giant PR problem for Karl Dean by gouging the city for promoting the new convention center. It's so bad the mayor has been forced to tell MDHA to cut off the mighty MP&F, which was so greedy it charged taxpayers nearly $500,000 to monitor tweets and blog comments, send a few emails and spoon-feed the always-desperate-for-another column Gail Kerr. Maybe Dean should hire a PR firm to figure out how to spin the mess created by MP&F. How much would that cost?

Read Dean's letter to MDHA here.

Regardless of his position on the need/viability of a convention center, Dean seems to have the most common-sense of all Nashville mayors of the past 20 years. He obviously is far more humble than Purcell ever could claim to be. Unlike Bill, if he is proven wrong, he admits it and does not feel the need to steamroll over dissenting views.

Thanks for that City Paper-spin, Anon.
Why are some Deaniacs so obsessed with the "at-least-he's-not-Purcell" spin? You zealots must be hating that Purcell continues to make good in a venue more revered than the Metro Courthouse.
Try to keep your eye on the ball. Focus on the mistakes at hand. MCC stands to be the most expensive mistake in Nashville history. Compare that to anything Purcell funded. Purcell never took these kinds of risks. And if he wouldn't do it during the housing bubble, he sure as hell wouldn't try to reel in this whale during a recession.

Good on him for [temporarily] halting the cash sPiggot. But humility?
Humility, my eye. He's only backing down now because someone decided to do a little bit of (gasp!) reporting on the whole scam. NewsChannel 5 kicked over the rotting stump and the critters are scattering for shelter.
Nice little minting operation that Metro is hosting on behalf of MP&F.
Ethical cues come courtesy of their leadership, no doubt. Sometimes it's hard to tell where the PR ends and the government begins. Dave Cooley, e.g., has been a long-time beneficiary of the revolving door. And Fox himself was a critical part of Dean's election team, reportedly. What's half a million in billable time between golf buddies...?

I can assure you Purcell would have never fired a PR firm.

Which part of "this is not about Purcell" do you not understand?

And to correct:
When has Karl Dean ever fired a PR firm? All he's done in this situation is "temporarily suspended" the MP&F contract until Metro Finance can get where they are supposed to be: on top of it.
Just like Babyface Nelson, MP&F will be right back on top again, too, once the news media heat retreats.
