Birthers are Republican, Southern, Study says...Oh, and Marginalized

Posted by Brantley Hargrove on Fri, Jul 31, 2009 at 1:21 PM

According to a Daily Kos poll, Birtherism finds its greatest audience among Republicans in the South.

Overall, 11 percent of Americans are Birther conspiracy wingnuts. So, to douchbags like Lou Dobbs, who assert that Birth Certificate-gate is really gaining traction, it's really not. It's Southern Republicans who are becoming a squawking minority increasingly apart from mainstream American life.

Here's how it breaks down:

77 percent of Americans believe Obama is a citizen. 11 percent do not. 12 percent don't know.

28 percent of Republicans believe Obama is not a citizen.

23 percent of people in the South believe Obama is not a citizen. This, of course is embarrassing because in the Northeast, the West and the Midwest, the number of folks who don't believe the President is a citizen is in the single digits. Sigh, South -- like the crazy uncle you can't introduce to your girlfriend because he'll say something awkward and humiliating.

Hi Brantley,
What are the percentages in the rest of the world?
kind regards,

I don't think we are doing our president a good turn by grouping skeptics together as douchebags and wingnuts.
Daily Kos is hardly a paragon of journalistic virtue. Nor is Snopes, Factcheck, not the Dept of health for the great state of Hawaii for that matter.
Let's admit that when asked to produce a birth certificate, most folks are accustomed to producing a document that is about as old as the person is.
There is not a huge surprise that when an adult provides a paper younger than they are by over 20 years, that some may wonder if he or she is not bringing the full truth into the light.
If I didn't know better, I'd say that someone is trying to nurture this so that people like the author can bash away at republicans, and distract their fellow americans from the current events.
The current events are a terrible embarrasment to the party in power.
Wasted 2009 stimulus fraud.
Health care debt.
Snap judgement of Police.
Retractions, distractions.
Someone needs to put their pointing fingers away and shut up and get back to honest work, if that is remotely possible in politics.

Amen, and a double word up to that, Nate!!!!!! We are not douchebags or wingnuts, just honest citizens trying to expose to the world that Obama is not one of us. I mean, if he was one of us, he wouldn´t have named his daughter´s Malia and Sasha, now would he!!!!!
And if I´m so marginalized, why does the government find it necessary to fly black helicopters over my house incessantly? Answer that Mr. Hargrove.

I can't believe it! They're calling you a douchebag and a wingnut just because you think the Hawaii Health Department is lying!
Please, somebody call Linda Lingle, the governor of Hawaii. She's a Republican, and there's no way she would allow a senior member of her administration to get away with saying that the Usurper was born in Hawaii.
I mean, what's wrong with people?

Nate, answer me this: Even if Obama wasn't born in Hawaii, how is not an American citizen, being born to a mother who was a citizen? My grandfather was a US sub captain in 1929 stationed in the Philippines when my mother was born, there. I assure you, she was a U.S. citizen up to the day she died. So are you saying Obama's mother wasn't a citizen?

Nate, just curious if you and the rest of the Birthers would call for the birth certificate of a President if he was a white guy and his name didn't sound foreign-y?
And yes, douchebag and wingnut are precise, descriptive bits of language perfectly suited to Birthers.

What's the point of writing about the birthers so much? They're irrelevant, insane, disgruntled and a tiny minority in Nashville, which voted for Obama anyway. Besides, isn't there enough going on locally to write and report on?
Afflict the comfortable--not the crazy.

SimplePlan -- I think you're right in that there's no point in afflicting the crazy.
But this issue has been lurking beneath the surface for a long time; and it's hard to believe that the crazies account for the "28 percent of Republicans" or the "23 percent of people in the South [who] believe Obama is not a citizen."
I'm sure that many of them have picked up rumors over the months and are inclined, for reasons of their own -- and not necessarily crazy ones, some simply grounded in political partisanship -- to give them some credence.
That's why I am happy to see reputable media making it clear that none of it deserves to be taken the least bit seriously.

Of course, Doubtful, they cannot be taken seriously.
But, of course, they are indeed douchebags and wingnuts.

Birthers need to start demanding a new law to prove “natural-born” status for future presidential elections. Obama’s position on that legislation will “show his hand.”
To all the people that say Obama is legitimate, I would like to know if your decision was based on faith or facts? If it’s faith, I’m not persuaded. If it’s based on facts, show them to the world so we can evaluate them for ourselves!
If Obama has a long-form, why doesn’t he show it? If he doesn’t have one, why not? People that hide things, usually have something to hide. He works for us. We have a right to know! We have a right to demand it!!!!!!!!!!!! We need to send a message to Obama and to EVERY OTHER POTENTIAL VIOLATOR OF OUR RULE OF LAW!!!!!!!!!!!
OBAMA, STOP HIDING. SHOW US THE LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE!!!!!

LOL, TennRod! Maybe they are; and those who are will never be convinced.
But I'm here because there may be some folks sitting on the fence, who don't know quite what to believe. And I'd like them to see that those of us who know that birtherism is BS sound a lot saner than the ... well, than the douchebags and wingnuts.

I'm with Captain Steve, though I don't think we should be content with just the long-form birth certificate. I read somewhere that Hawaii actually has a secret vault of super-long-form birth certificates, which include soil samples from the hospital grounds, sworn testimony from attending nurses and physicians, plus close-up video of the child emerging from the birth canal. Only after we see all this can we be assured that Obama isn't a muslim foreigner.
What are you trying to hide, Hawaii? And why did we let you into America in the first place? You're like Puerto Rico, only you can't even provide us with decent baseball players -- except for that guy on the Phillies, who doesn't even hit for power.

Yes, Ashley. They are all in on it.
The Hawaii Dept. of Health, both Clintons, McCain, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, CSPAN3, the Bilderbergers, the Priory of Zion, the World Wildlife Federation, the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union (Local 265), the Fourth Fractional Township Commission, the Canadian Football League, The League of Women's Voters, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Ladies Garden Club of Sleepy Eye, Minn.
They all conspired to kill Vince Foster and make it look like suicide in 1993 because he knew too much about the background of a Univ. of Chicago constitutional law professor. And something about the Federal Reserve. Probably.

The Rothschilds, being Jews, are obviously in the Priory of Zion, Pete. And I think they once owned a minority stake in one of the CFL teams called the Roughriders.
Did you know Charlie Hough is from Hawaii? I didn't. He's probably involved somehow. I've never trusted knuckleballers.

nate reality check. People lose their BCs all the time. Your whole "provides a paper younger than they are by over 20 years, that some may wonder if he or she is not bringing the full truth into the light" it just silly.
Only 6 out of the 44 presidents have had a BC so should we all wonder about the 38 Presidents?
I find it very funny for you to say stop pointing the finger when your whole post is one giant finger pointing.
the hypocrisy of the right is always amazing.

No further action need be taken to "end the discussion" or to "end the questions". The discussion is closed by order of the US Supreme Court, whose Chief Justice administered the Oath of Office of President of the United States, and by order of the Senate of the United States whom confirmed the electoral college voting results.
The discussion is OVER.
Anyone applying for a passport would get a certificate from their state of birth similar to that issued to Barack Obama and the same as publicly circulated and displayed. The Constitution does not require special forms of birth certificates to appease racist subversives undermining the presidency using falsified Kenya documentations and claims.
When it comes down to who do you trust, the STATE of HAWAII is trusted over unknown Kenyan alleged witnesses. STANLEY ANN Obama, Barack's mother, was unable to travel to Kenya for medical reasons, and an infant returning with her would not be admitted into the US for medical reason -- it didn't happen and was medically impossible due to Yellow Fever Virus Vaccination medical requirements.
Pregnant women were not vaccinated and infants under 1-year-old were not vaccinated. It didn't happen.
Stanley Ann was in classes at University of Hawaii before the birth -- there was no prolonged absence from classes. Barack Obama Senior was conspicuous as the FIRST-EVER BLACK STUDENT at University of Hawaii, and was not absent from classes before or after the birth.
The only conspiracy is the criminal fraud conspiracy falsifying documentation purporting that there are witnesses in Kenya who allegedly attended the alleged Kenyan birth. These felony fraudsters need to be punished with severe prison sentences, including those aiding and abetting after the fact, because they have undermined military good order and have already caused at least one officer to refuse orders of assignment caused by the fraud crime. This is not harmless political tug-of-war but actual treason. Traitors must be punished for undermining America's security during a time of war.

Y'know, I just don't get something here.
By the standards of the Birther "movement," I wouldn't be considered a citizen since there is absolutely no way in hell I could ever produce my original birth certificate. I also have no birth announcement from a local publication I can reference to prove my citizenship. I can't even tell you who the doctor was who delivered me because I don't even know.
See, I'm adopted. And the state where I was adopted (Arizona) doesn't allow me to have access to any of this information unless my birth parents agree to it -- and it's entirely on me to locate them because the state doesn't have those records. The state also does not supply anything other than a certificate of live birth to me, and it states clearly on it that the information has been altered due to adoption.
Here's the kicker; I may not have even been born in that state -- but I was adopted in that state via a Catholic charity. What's to say that I wasn't born a little further south of the border? Nothing.
I _am_ an American citizen. I pay taxes just like everyone else, have my good 'ol US of A passport, and will end up drawing out whatever's left of my social security after the baby boomers are done with it. I just can't prove it half as well as the President can.
But, see, I'm white. Visibly white. Not even brown, yellow, gray, or teal in the slightest. I don't look altogether foreign, although most people agree that I look rather Jewish. If I were to run for public office, why do I suspect that despite my relative inability to supply the same things as Obama does my provenance as a citizen wouldn't be questioned?

Good point, don't ask.
I also only have a copy (although it is an official copy, with a seal) of my birth certificate. We moved around a lot when I was younger so I assume it got lost. Or maybe my dad took it when my parents divorced. Does this mean I can't ever be president?
