An executive of Planned Parenthood of Greater Memphis said today that when she and two colleagues traveled to Nashville in April to lobby state legislators, Sen. Paul Stanley told them he would never support Planned Parenthood and "didn't believe young people should have sex before marriage anyway." That visit to the Germantown Republican's Nashville office was on April 7. The next morning, Stanley, 47, became the target of a $10,000 extortion attempt and told a state investigator that he had "developed a sexual relationship" with a 22-year-old legislative intern and had photographed her in his Nashville apartment.

Maybe he only meant no sex until at least *one* of you is married...
The degree to which this asshole is damaging lives of Tennesseans - let alone the people around him - is stunning. Reminds me of the movie Outrage - which never played in Nashville.
Like many of the anti-abortion male politicians, I wonder how quickly his views would change on the subject should the young woman he was having the affair with turn up pregnant.
ryan b - are you serious? he's the type that would ruin the girls life by shaming her into having the baby. Her safety and the baby's be damned.
People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. What is it with these guys? Are so many doing the same thing that they think they'll never get caught?
If Ron Ramsey wants to have any chance at being elected governor, he needs to demand Stanley's resignation immediately. Every day that goes by with him being silent allows this whole mess to be associated with Ramsey more and more.
Maybe you know the answer to your own appeal, Greg. Why would anyone elect any of this cast of characters again?
I hope none of them are elected again. I am a yellow dog Democrat. That was merely a political observation. Sadly, this happens every year. At least in the years I worked there, 2000-2002, there was always a member who was boinking an intern.
“OK, Just for the sake of argument lets say there are photos of a Stanley affair and it was all true. (I have no knowledge of that one way or the other) Is that illegal? No. While unseemly, he has not broken any legal law. To his credit he went above what many would do and called the cops when being shaken down. I am sure he knew when he did, that it would come out and it would not be pretty. He stood up to the blackmailer and did the right thing anyway. A lesser person would have caved, given the money and hoped it never came out.” - Rep. Stacey Campfield
Unbelievable. He breaks his marriage vows and reveals himself as a breathtaking moral hypocrite, and Rep. Campfield is complimenting him on his behavior because he wouldn't allow himself to be blackmailed?
I expect that if Stanley robbed a bank, hid the cash for months and then surrendered when police surrounded his house, Campfield would praise him for not resisting arrest.
In response to those who think Stanley is being unfairly held to a higher standard than others (such as Democrats) upon learning of his adultery, I suggest that he should be because of his moralistic statements and condemnations of others he considers immoral.
Put another way, I would be more outraged if the President of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) was arrested for DUI than if it was someone else. You expect people who crusade against drunk driving to be more careful themselves about doing it.
