Sen. Paul Stanley, Champion of Family Values, Caught in Sex-and-Blackmail Scandal

Well, it was only a matter of time, wasn't it? According to authorities, one of our own social conservative Republicans has been caught cheating on his wife, and he was doing it with a young legislative intern. At this juncture, we're going to resist the temptation to make a joke about family values. That's getting so old it's not funny anymore. Suffice it to say that like John Ensign, Mark Sanford and all the rest on the national stage lately, this one is really rich--with a little homemade porn and a bumbling blackmailer tossed into the story to make it even spicier. Ensnared in Tennessee's own sex scandal tonight is Sen. Paul Stanley, the wingnut from Germantown who has crusaded to ban gay adoption of children and who once made the really stupid mistake of saying: "When you're married, there's a commitment there." According to court documents, here's what happened: Stanley, who is married with two children, was accused of having an affair with a 22-year-old legislative intern, McKensie Morrison, by the woman's boyfriend. The boyfriend, Joel Palmer Watts. 28, discovered a computer memory disc with sexually explicit photographs of Morrison that appeared to have been taken in Stanley's apartment. Watts then blackmailed Stanley, demanding $10,000 in return for keeping quiet. "Releasing the photographs to individuals or the media would cause embarrassment, both professionally and personally, to Stanley," according to the court affidavit, as if we needed an explanation for why this might pose a small problem for our family values champion. (Notably, as a House member, Stanley introduced a bill prohibiting the showing of pornographic materials in a moving vehicle. Don't ask us to explain why.) Now a blackmail victim, Stanley went to the TBI, and they set up Watts. Stanley met his blackmailer behind the El Rey Azteca Mexican restaurant in Whites Creek. Where else? According to court documents:
"When Watts arrived, he and Stanley exchanged the memory disc for the $10,000.00. Watts was taken into custody at that time. During a subsequent interview, Watts admitted to demanding the money from Stanley."

All this happened in April and, amazingly, Stanley managed to keep it quiet until now. Watts has been charged with extortion. Stanley isn't talking to reporters. At the Nashville Post, Ken Whitehouse is reporting the senator will resign as chair of the Commerce Committee tomorrow. Stanley can only hope that satisfies his Republicans colleagues. But it's not likely Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, who is running for governor, will have much appetite for publicly defending Stanley, and odds are Republicans won't wait too long before politely suggesting that he quit the Senate for the good of the party. Here's an idea, why doesn't the entire Republican caucus resign for the good of mankind.
And his wife should divorce the effin toad. He's clearly an unfit parent. What is he teach his son/daughter? A piss poor example of morals in public view.

How about we kick him out of the Republican Party? This is a helluva lot worse than voting for himself for Speaker (as did Speaker Williams). Come on Chairman Devaney, it's been long enough to right Smith's wrongs...........put Williams back in the party if he is willing to come. Let's see, I slept with an intern versus voting for myself?????

Our Tennessee Republican family values guys are having more out of wedlock sex than the rabbits who have overpopulated my vegetable garden. I think all their incessant blattering about reproductive issues and gay marriage has bored into their brains and caused some kind of hormone surges that probably account for their obsession with sex. Now if they will only react the same way to their obsession with guns maybe they will all shoot themselves.

If you guys figure out how to make this joker resign, pass it on to us down here in SC because we can't get our Governor to resign even though I doubt he has two supporters left. He says God told him that it would be good for his character if he served out the rest of his term.

Hopefully, we are moving toward the day when our GOP is led by people, like me for instance, who do not grandstand on issues of morality and merely seek to preserve enforce the Constitution in its entirety.
None of us is righteous, no, not one. We are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God. Judge not, lest the same measure be accorded unto you, Senator.
It seems like the Bible is pretty clear on people who attempt to profit from casting the first stone.
I humbly ask the statists and the media to remember my statement on this issue when the dirty tricks committee starts digging through my trash.

I met with Sen. Paul Stanley with a group from Planned Parenthood back in April. He told us that he didn't think young people should need access to contraceptives because they shouldn't be having sex outside of marriage. Meanwhile, he's diddling his intern, presumably behind his wife's back. Hmmm...didn't Jesus say something about hypocracy?

If you are in the GOP you catch this disease that causes your reproductive organs to fall out of your clothes. Poor dears, they can't help it, it is like Tourret's Disorder. It is Repug Bug. Part of this disease causes you to be afraid of others different than yourself and trying to write hypocritical laws.

One more lying, hypocrite GOP down, and so many more to go. They are out there passing laws on every type of victemless crime, and giving us moral lectures, while privately they are living lives of depravity. These hypocrites, must have trouble keeping the lies that they tell their Republican constituents (often well meaning religious followers) and the depravity that they practice in their personal lives from getting mixed up. Well, due to a more vigilant press and people who no longer will listen to the “do as I say, not as I do,” line, many are being discovered, and driven out of office like rats jumping ship. When will Ensign and Sanford reisgn? They too preached family values. Does not their moral majority party care, as long as it is a Republican doing the adultery and possible misuse of funds to cover up their infidelities?

Read blogs on the commercial appleal and someone there said the difference between the republican party and the democraitc party in the mid-south is "If Stanley were a local Democrat, his party would be defending him and minimizing the situation as a insignificant personal matter with no reflection on his ability to govern" the fact is that difference between the two parties period is the fact that republican party promotes Racism, Sexism and Homophobia using "family values" as a cover. As a former southerner, and an american I state this as a fact.

The real difference between the GOP and the Dems is that the Dems don't go around preaching family values and what other people shouldn't do it while they're banging away. My take is that the GOP have represses sex so much and now they're busting out all over. Wonder if those men get together with their pumps and talk about family values while using their pumps?

Yawn, this story is getting so common it's almost boring (but still delightful). Once and for all, can we at least dance on the grave of the whole "family values" platform since obviously even its staunchest proponents cannot seem to live up to it? It's time that we do as the Europeans do and admit that monogamy is not really a natural state and when one has sufficient money and power, one will dabble in sexual opportunities that present themselves, irrespective of what one's political stance on the issue might be. My favorite part of the tale, though, is the idea that this guy preferred being outed as a hypocritical adulterer to paying out a measly ten grand to keep the whole thing quiet, LOL.
