White Males Officially Disown Pat Buchanan

Posted by Caleb Hannan on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 10:07 AM

Ya know, as much as I'd like to take credit for the fact that people who sort of look like me were, according to Pat Buchanan, "100% of the people who wrote the constitution, 100% of the people who signed the Declaration of Independence, 100% of the people who died at Gettysburg and Vicksburg, and probably close to 100% of the people who died at Normandy," I just don't think that's reason enough to keep some smart Latina woman off the bench in 2009. But that's just me. Bonus: In the beginning of the video, Crazy Old Coot Buchanan rattles off a list of five (FIVE WHOLE WHITE PEOPLE) who've been famously discriminated against due to affirmative action. Included in that list is Frank Ricci, the New Haven, Connecticut, firefighter whose case has received so much attention due to Sotomayor's nomination. Wanna hear something interesting? Ricci, the folk hero whose sad sack story has been cat nip to angry white guys like Buchanan, is a serial litigant. According to this article by Slate's Dahlia Lithwick, Ricci has been suing his employers since his first job at the age of 20. Here's Lithwick summing up the hypocrisy of using a guy like Ricci to discredit Sotomayor:
When Frank Ricci testifies against Judge Sotomayor, it will be worth recalling that under any other set of facts he would have looked to his GOP sponsors like the kind of unscrupulous professional litigant Rush Limbaugh lives to savage. Is America's conservative movement really ready for an anti-affirmative action hero who has repeatedly relied on the government to intervene on his behalf to win him--and help him keep--a government job?

Pat's like that old grandfather who you can't take out in public. Someone change his diaper and give him a Geritol.

Buchanan should never be barred
From spewing his racist canard;
Do not disavow him:
Let Maddow allow him
To hoist himself on his petard.

Pat Buchanan is wrong in so many ways.

I was born in CT and lived there for 35 years. By the sound of Ricci, he's only one step removed from Pukechanons way of thinking. There are a lot of whiner, cry-baby republican racists up there. Though not nearly as many as here.

I'm from MA an I can tell you that absolutely nothing good has come out of CT besides Wiffle Ball and a punk band named The Pist. Any white dude from CT complaining about reverse racism is full of shit and probably just pissed that he was too dumb to get into the insurance racket.
Oh, and my brother-in-law Brian is cool, despite being from CT. I figure being a Jets fan is genetic deformity and I try not to hold it against him.
