Blackburn Acts Crazy on House Floor Again

Posted by Jeff Woods on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 8:52 AM

Here's Congressman Marsha Blackburn throwing a hissy fit on the House floor yesterday over federal spending. See Marsha stamp her feet and shake her fists! It's "absolutely incomprehensible" the world fails to recognize her genius. Blackburn wants to chop spending blindly by 5 percent. A 5 percent cut in the bill at issue yesterday would have wiped out new IRS initiatives to go after tax cheats. Oops! But it makes for a catchy little slogan: "Save a nickle on the dollar." Yesterday's vote was the fourth time Blackburn's colleagues have listened politely to her rant, then voted for her to go away.

Oops! yourself, you analytical dimwit.
Accord to the OMB web site, the FY 2010 spending budget is about $3.6 trillion.
A 5% cut on that would amount to $180 billion.
Unless the IRS program brought in more than $180 billion in additonal tax revenue, which it most assuredly will not, the 5% accross the board cut would still save money.
And speaking of saving money, a report just out by the Congressional Budget Office blows Obama's claim that his socialized medicine scheme will save money right out of the water. It will increase spending, not reduce it.

She's right of course, libbies. Our goverments -- city, state, federal -- has a spending problem, because of bloated budgets.

Obviously they're not spending enough on education.

What if we could also cut off 5% of Marsha every year?

Bawston Sean,
We spend more than enough on education. We don't spend enough on the right elements of education.
More importantly, we need to remember that schools are limited in what they can accomplish by barriers in the home and in the community. If you want better results for more children, you need to focus on strengthening families and making education something that is more valued within society.
You can pay teachers $200,000 a year to teach in palaces and for too many children, it will not make a major difference. Without families and communities that value education and make it a priority, kids will slide by and settle for doing the minimum.

"We spend more than enough on education"
The federal government centainly spends more than it should on it - since it shouldn't be spending anything at all.
Education isn't the responsibility of the federal government. It isn't pursuant to any enumerated power delegated to it in the text of the Constitution as required by the 10th Amendment.
Education is exclusively a state and local responsibility. And they spend way too much on it as well, with a lot of it wasted on useless bureaucracy.

Mr Rogers - Please call Goldman Sachs. They need your wonderful advice. They are mistakenly paying an average of $770,000 per employee in bonuses. Goldman just doesn't understand that incentives do not work.
While you are at it, also explain to them why the world is only 3,000 years old, the facts on creationism, the wisdom of stopping embryonic stem cell research, why the earth is flat, why global warming is a hoax, Copernicus's outdated "theories", and the real facts regarding Bigfoot, Nessie, and the Bunny Rabbit.

Gilbert you are only worth mocking. I would not waste my time having any type of debate with you because you are clearly backward and ignorant. You put your faith in pure fantasy and anyone who shapes their life after a fairy tale should not be taken seriously when it comes to matters that are important to our community. At this stage in society, you simply should know better. Your ship sailed sir, you're just so stupid you can't see it yet. The influence in our culture and politics of your kind is coming to a slow close. The religious right wing is slipping quietly into a gentle night. There is nothing you can do to stop the progress of free thinking compassionate people who plan on saving this planet from your antique doctrines of hate. But until you fade away, I will continue to mock you the way you mock a world you no longer understand. Good night sweet prince.

MrRushLimpbone,
"Goldman just doesn't understand that incentives do not work."
This isn't about incentives. This is about the barriers that too many children face by the time they start school and as they grow older.
As for those other 'facts,' I will pass since I don't accept them. They are almost as silly as your argument. But not quite.
