Tennessee's Unemployment Rate Reaches 10.8 Percent

Posted by Pete Kotz on Thu, Jul 16, 2009 at 3:51 PM

The good news is that the state's unemployment rate jumped only .1 percent in June over the previous month. The bad news is it hit 10.8 percent, much higher than the 6.4 percent it registered in the same month a year ago.

Sadly, Tennessee is also doing worse than the rest of the country. The national jobless rate for June was 9.5 percent.

Why is no one talking about the forced assessments being made on Tennessee employers retroactively back to the beginning of the year on the first $9,000 instead of the first $7,000 of employee earnings for State Unemployment Taxes along with a rate increase?

Very interesting take, did you do research before writing this article? I'm going to have to do some after reading it.
