Kentucky coal company TECO Coal has this message, interpreted by
Pith, for Tennessee:
If you want us at your party (Tennessee tourism), you'd better let us piss in your pool (poison your mountain streams), poop in your shrubbery (fill your valleys will blasted rock), and stage dive onto your plasma TV (ruin scenic Smoky Mtn. vistas).Because Sen. Lamar Alexander thinks blowing the tops off of the Smokies is a bad idea, TECO Coal is encouraging its employees to boycott Tennessee, taking with them their tourism dollars. A similar story was posted here not long ago, only then it was
West Virginia.
You can almost smell the petulance and sanctimony. We like mountains that aren't blown up for the sake of cheap, dirty electricity. Is that so hard to understand?
Sen. Lamar Alexander had this
response: "Every year, millions of tourists come to Tennessee and spend millions of dollars to see our scenic mountaintops, not to see mountains whose tops have been blown off and dumped into streams..."
Bravo, Senator. Bravo.
