(Water)Gun Fight at Johnson City Bar

The only casualties expected at Numan's Cafe and Sports Bar today are wet T-shirts and--worst case scenario--some smeared mascara.

In protest of the first official day of guns-in-bars, Johnson City bar owner Dan Numan is issuing his patrons water pistols, according to the News Sentinel. The first 100 patrons get the free water pistols, which will be followed by a massive and ironic battle. For all the gun nuts out there who might sneer at Numan and the other bar owners who plan to screen patrons for weapons, isn't this totally libertarian?

The guv'ment enacted a law allowing people to carry guns into places where, like it or not, fights break out. You might get punched, or something. Last thing these guys want is some wiener with hurt pride, pulling out a concealed weapon in anger. So they're just deciding for themselves. Isn't this what y'all want? The little guy deciding he's not going to let the government tell him how to run his bar? That's individual liberty. Are gun rights people cool with this kind of liberty exercising?

I can't figure out what your sarcasm is driving at. What is your point?

I can figure it out, it ain't rocket science. He's poking fun at the uber-rightwing libertarian-leaning gun nuts who want to carry concealed weapons wherever they please for their outrage at bar owners exercising their rights to frisk them at the door and prohibit them from bringing weapons, legal or illegal, into their own establishment. I own guns, I hunt, I shoot and kill animals for food, but I've never once felt the need to carry a pistol around with me at all times, and people who do frankly frighten me, 'cause I've not met one yet who wasn't a little bit nuts.

Here's what I don't get: Why go somewhere in Tennessee--a restaurant, a state park, a bar, a college campus, your job--you honestly believe you need to be armed to be safe? I have a sense of where those places are for me. I don't go there.
Unless, of course, you think that's nowhere? And if that's what you believe, how is it that moving isn't the only viable choice?

"What is your point?"
The point is trolling to drive up traffic on their blogsite.
That's all any of their posts on this subject ever amount to.
Because not a single one of them from the beginning ever had a scintilla of substance to them.
