Beale Street Says 'No' to Guns in Bars

The backlash against the legislature's kowtow to the gun lobby and the HCP nuts is alive and well in the home of the blues.

The Beale Street Merchant's Association and Beale management group, Performa Entertainment, will screen patrons for firearms, according to the AP. It would seem that the owners of these venerable establishments think pistol-wielding patrons aren't good for business. Or health. Or for safety.

And can you really blame them? Perhaps, in the daydreams of guns-in-bars advocates, they see themselves gallantly pulling a pistol in time to foil a robbery or murder when, in reality, it ain't like the movies. This stuff happens suddenly, and some yahoo with a concealed carry permit and the scant, requisite training, will only endanger themselves and others.

We applaud you, Beale Street. Thankfully, not everyone buys into the idea that going strapped is the only way to live.

I'd hope so ... they've had enough recent gun incidents on Beale Street even without the help of this silly law.

I don't know if this is the case, but isn't this precisely the sort of outcome that the more libertarian advocates of "allowing" (read: not prohibiting) guns in bars would want? Private action to make their own decisions?
Just sayin'. Observing that a private sector merchants' association is taking steps to ban guns in their restaurants does not exactly seem to reinforce the idea that it's necessary to legislate it -- quite the opposite, I'd think.

Wow. Beale Street is very misguided and so is Brantley Hargrove.
There is not any evidence throughout the country that preventing law-abiding citizens from carrying their firearm in public increases the chance of violence.
"..in the daydreams of guns-in-bars advocates, they see themselves gallantly pulling a pistol in time to foil a robbery or murder..." What nonsense. The emotional rant by Hargrove is disgusting. Not one prediction of doom and gloom has EVER happened in our country.
Many other States allow its law-abiding citizens to carry in many more places, such as Churches, Malls, Movie Theaters, City and State parks (and starting in Feb, National parks), bars, restaurants that serve alcohol, etc. etc. etc.
If permitting people to lawfully carry their firearm in these and other places in other States works, then why would it not work here? Arguments to the contrary are not based on ANY facts, only emotions.

You are ill-informed about the alleged "gun
nuts" that may be carrying concealed firearms for your protection; I have spent 26 years in law enforcement, NRA firearms instructor and SWAT leader and consistently carry a concealed firearm into all sorts of venues. And, for your information, law enforcement personnel whether on-duty or off-duty consume libations in appropriate amounts and have not demonstrated irresponsible behaviors while in these restraurants. The same holds true for citizens that are authorized to "carry" because they have been doing since the initial law was passed; without incidences.
