My
little rant yesterday about the smell in my water ended up leading to my education on water, where water comes from, stuff in water, and how stuff in water is treated.
Did you know...
- Metro Water takes 360 samples a day for testing both at the source and in various neighborhoods?
- That Nashville's water supply undergoes more regulation than bottled water, by both the EPA and the state?
- When it's summer, blue/green algae releases more compounds in water than normal? This stuff is treated with carbon, then magic science stuff I don't understand happens, and you're left with regular water that in no way poses a health risk. And it shouldn't smell.
- Check your drains, yo - sometimes the nasty smell you think is coming from the tap could be wafting up into your face from the drainpipes below, probably because you are a gross person who infrequently cleans. Ahem.
Anyway, massive big thanks to Metro Water for taking the time to talk to me about this, even after work hours.
Especially since it was after work hours. The only thing that would have made that nicer is if it was a Friday.
