Another bone-headed idea from the usual bone-headed source.
I wonder if Crafton has thought through how we will replace all of the Metro firefighters, teachers and police who will no longer be eligible for Metro employment, or the salary raises that will be necessary so folks in those jobs can afford to live here.
Still, bad idea. In the hiring of Metro employees, the first priority should be hiring the best qualified, most effective and efficient people to do the job. If they are hiring first based on whre the potential employees reside, they have not put hiring the best folks as most important.
Second, where one works is primarily an individual decision; for married couples, that has to be a mutual decision.
You know, this ain't half a bad idea. I now live in Davidson County, after living in Williamson County. Poor and minority applicants not accepted! It's so much cheaper and nicer to live there. Maybe if they were motivated by the fact that they live in the county, new employees (yes, of course they would grandfather in the old ones) would be a lot more interested in how things work in Davidson County. Maybe instead of a requirement, it could be a preference factor?? In other words, give them some credit in the hiring process if they actually live in Davidson County. Then it would help but not totally screen out the "best qualified." Who are probably the people who haven't attended school in Metro Davidson County.
