If you're still feeling cranky, teabaggers (and you know you are) come back to Legislative Plaza Thursday for yet another tea party rally! That's right, we'll do it all over again in only 72 hours. This time it's Tea Party Nation throwing the rally, and it's scheduled to last four hours so there should be plenty of time to vent your hatred of--well, of course you hate everything. The "keynote speaker" is none other than the Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, a talk radio darling from Los Angeles who's well acquainted with hatred himself. Wikipedia informs us that Peterson, who is black, wrote a column for WorldNetDaily in which he suggested that most African Americans stranded in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina were "welfare-pampered," "lazy" and "immoral." And during a panel discussion at the University of California-Irvine, Peterson described Islam as an "evil religion," and argued that extremist Muslims "hate us [America] because we are a Christian nation and we support Israel." What a charming guy! In addition to Peterson's speech, organizers promise "music and fun for the whole family."

Man, the background of that poster makes me wistful for olden-days propaganda. The fonts - so classy! The portraits - so ruddy cheeked! If only we were Soviets - THOSE people know how to turn a message into art.

Nothing says "patriotism" like san serif titling.

Don't these people have jobs? How do they keep getting work days off to fart around at Legislative Plaza?

Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson may be a hatemonger, but he is BLACK which just proves that the tea parties aren't about hating Obama.

Some people do more than "have jobs". Some people are successful in life and have positioned themselves so that they can make their own schedules. Many of the people there are self employed or own their own businesses (that employ people..you know, people that actually drive the economy). Many also take their lunch breaks to participate.
I would bet that most of the people there are far more educated than you could ever hope to be. You wouldn't know it by The Nashville Rags yellow coverage on the subject but you aren't worthy of eating most of these people's dung.
Now stop farting around on the internet and get back to work...

Is Rev. Peterson running for office in Tennessee? He seems like most our elected officials here.

So, the first 40 U.S. presidents ran up a total debt of $1 trillion. Reagan & the Bushes increased that from $1 trillion to $10 trillion, just by themselves. Where were these very, very white teabaggers then? Any record of any white rage at Raygun & George W. F-up at their drunken fiscal policies. Now, given the choice of doing nothing & creating the second great depression or else trying to fix one of George W.'s serial F-ups, do these very white teabaggers complain.

Kevin,
Judging from the misspellings on the signs I saw down at the Plaza yesterday, I sure wouldn't want to hazard a guess about the educational level of the teabaggers...

The first two commenters just provided more evidence for my contention that liberalism is a social, not an intellectual attitude. Rolling eyes and putting one's energy into being clever rather than being accurate is similar.
As to Peterson's comments, I don't know a thing about him, but the Muslim extremists themselves say that they hate us because we are a Christian nation that supports Israel, so I'm not sure why that would be hatemongering on the reverend's part. I also don't know about lazy and immoral - they are likely not much worse than the rest of us - but the majority of those who stayed behind in NO were indeed on welfare.
So saying "do these people have jobs" is okay, but calling someone "welfare-pampered" is hatemongering...
Sure. Hold that thought.

Jeff,
Thank you for your insightful and poignant articles on the Tea Party movement. You are truly an inspired and original wordsmith. That cranky teabagging thing was hilarious. Where did you come up with that one? I only hope that you are on hand Thursday to provide Tea Party Nation with some more great coverage. It only goes to prove our points and strengthen our resolve. Keep up the great work!!!

Hey Jeff I just wondered why you didn't follow up and cover the Tea Party Nation Independence Rally on July 2nd. We had a small but very motivated crowd. The speakers were fantastic. No hate speech just good information about the path this nation is on and what we can do to change it. Please take a moment and visit www.teapartynation.com and check out our members comments and pictures.

Mr. West,
Grow up. I guess your mother didn't teach you not to use "pottymouth" language.
I could envision your snickering at using the "teabaggers" comment. It is Oh So Clever.
So, you must have been the boy in 5th grade that talked dirty just to get attention.
But it didn't work - you probably got laughed AT.
Keep yuor day job - if you have one.
