Kristine 1, Rex 0

A presumably well-intentioned "Rex" played a perilous name game in Monday's City Paper:
La-loan the vice mayor a pronunciation guide

OK, this is getting awkward. Kristine LaLonde was elected to Metro Council in April so she's only represented District 18 at a few meetings. And at those few meetings, LaLonde has only been called on by Vice Mayor Diane Neighbors a few times.

But each time LaLonde has been called upon, Neighbors has pronounced her name incorrectly. I suppose it would be a little strange for the rookie Council member to point out the error to the venerable Council president, but Rex is happy to pick up the awkward slack.

So, for the record, her name is pronounced Luh-lond (rhymes with pond) not La-loaned. Neighbors is an expert at moving meetings along and compared to many Council members, she's a pretty slick talker too, but we all deserve have our names said correctly. Don't we?
Over to you for the smackdown, Kristine (via Facebook):

Next time, Rex, perhaps you'll call first, then write the squib. And I'm sure the Vice Mayor accepts your apology.

Kristine,
Why do you tolerate people mispronouncing your name?

Did LaLond change her last name's pronunciation just to suit the Vice Mayor's way of pronouncing it? Wow.

If only Sotomayor had updated her Facebook status...
