To the Cornerstone Church Congregants Who May Be Raiding Scene Boxes: You missed a few!

  • Just ask her where you can find a Scene.
A commenter on this week's cover story, Washed in the Blood, says she was accosted by an elderly rabble in downtown somewhere. I'm assuming Nashville. "Mary" didn't specify.

The "old guys" allegedly asked her where she'd gotten her Nashville Scene. Then, as they walked away, she reportedly heard them say, "Ok, let's go. We didn't get all of them."

If this is to be believed, it may mean that marauding groups of Cornerstone Church congregants are pillaging Scene boxes across town. To that end, let me assist you, gentlemen, in your attempts at suppression. There are a few boxes, in all likelihood, that you have overlooked.

Did you check The Muse on 4th Avenue? It's right next to a porn shop situated (nearly) beneath an overpass.

There's the Greyhound Station. Oh, and don't forget that free clinic on the east side.

Check any one of the seedy tire shops on Dickerson Pike. If you have trouble, ask one of the prostitutes. (She probably advertises with us anyway)

Hope this helps!

Haha. This post killed me. I mean seriously, it's absolute murder. It's like my laughter came into my home, stabbed me in the throat, left me to die, got out of jail after less than a decade and made millions off the story of how it killed me.
Our circulation is like 50,000, Cornerstone minions. Then you're going to have to hack/crash the website. Good luck!

I want SCENE MAGAZINE to know that first of all your filthy trashhy magazine is offensive and putting prostitutes on the street to hand out your magazine is not going to boost your sales its only giving you a bad name... Oh I forgot you have had a bad name for yourselfs for yours.
As for your article on Pastor Maury Davis and his congregation. Well let me tell you this is an awesome man of God and I Pastor Maury Davis dearly. He has an awesome and powerful church that is very involved in the community to get Sin out of the community and off the streets and into the church of God to save souls and to disciple men and women who are NOT SAVED. But You people at NASHVILLE SCENE who want to slam Pastor Maury Davis, and to show your stupidity and ignorance by displaying a picture of a bible with a knife in it and blood well let me tell you something you are not hurting pastor Maury but hurting Jesus Christ my slandering him and mocking God's word and what the bible stands for which is TRUTH. Gays, Lesbians, and prostitues its time you all get the sin out of your lives and come to know Jesus. I guess the truth just hurts don't it when its in the bible of how Jesus felt about ya'll. Jesus loves us all and so does Maury Davis, but its the SIn of what you do that is wrong. Jesus will not bless anyone for wrong they do and for people who flaunt their homosexuality around as if its okay because its NOT. But slamming Pastor Maury Davis, in your article proves you stand behind Satan and not Jesus Christ and the truth. You will one day stand face to face with God and will be judged f0r your sin and we are ALL accountable for what we say and do and how we lived our lives. The bible says: WE ARE TO LIVE HOLY LIVES"...... Pastor Maury Davis is an awesome pastor, preacher, teacher and a bold man of God. When you come to know Jesus you will also come to know who Pastor Maury Is as well. He is not wrong for saying the truth. SIn is sin. when you live for Jesus and walk in Faith its then you will see the light!

Let me get this straight: Pastor Maury's sin is that he cut the throat of a 54-year-old Sunday School teacher, the author's is that he wrote an article about it--and ***the author*** is the one who deserves to stand in judgment?

Lenette:
Well-intentioned zealots like you wind up being Satan's best friend and Christianity's worst enemy.
And stop equating Maury Davis with Jesus.

Does that lady really think the scene has prostitutes pass out copies of the scene????

Then, as they walked away, she reportedly heard them say, "Ok, let's go. We didn't get all of them."
LOL!!!!
Are they kidding???? Husband and I both picked up a Scene -- not from a hooker! -- and read the cover story. Amazing reporting and all I can think is: if Maury Davis had been African American, this story would have turned out completely differently.
This is the perfect example of how our justice system is corrupt and unjust and the death penalty should be OUTLAWED. Now.

The details of Maury Davis' past were first reported by the Dallas Morning News. Did Davis' congregants make the trip to Dallas to steal those editions too?

i think i might just visit cornerstone church tomorrow for the father's day service to see if he even shows up. i do feel for his family. they did nothing wrong. this was a great article and of course some of their congregation is going to stand up for him b/c, for all i know, he is a great guy.... now. however, i'm almost certain that they had no idea how gruesome and senseless his crime was and even if God has forgiven him, there are still consequences for your actions and his career/ministry may be permanently damaged from this article. i think the only thing he can do at this point is go down to texas and attempt to make things right with the family of the victim. they may never forgive him but at least he can try. also, maybe consider selling the million dollar mansion and donating some serious cash to violent crime prevention or something. i don't know. the whole thing is really sad.

Go Maury! Do that great slide for heaven like Brother Elmer showed 'ya. And who knows the street walkers that could be redeemed.
The Scene, along with other assorted gad-fly opponents of Christendom are boosting your mighty ministry with blather. Just like if you sponsored a soap opera. I'll just bet your church attendance, and offerings, will prosper visibly. And it won't have cost you anything from the advertising budget. Ha!

Wow. I picked up that issue of the Scene but didn't read the cover story because I normally try to ignore those people. Thanks to Lenette for stirring up my interest, thus causing me to go back and read the article that I had been more than happy to skip. Just like I had no interest in seeing The Last Temptation of Christ until the Christers called my attention to it. You people expose me to so many wonderful things!

The story of Maury Davis is all the more reason you need to sue someone who killed your family member. That way if that person "repents" and then makes good (or even wins the lottery) you can go after them for the monetary value of the loss of your loved one. As it is, the relatives of the dead lady get nothing from Maury Davis's most likely now huge paster salary...

The LOrd remembers Pastor Davis sins no more. You at the nashville scene could accept the same gift. If you are jealous of the love that Jesus gives to Maury Davis, then you should come to Jesus yourself to receive what you know to be true, the love of christ.

It is hard to forgive someone. It's not impossible. I had to forgive someone for raping my daughter. It was very difficult. Forgiveness sets everyone free. Maury Davis did his time as far as I'm concerned. I can't say that for the rapist, but his crime, though not forgotten, but forgiven, gives me the peace that I needed to go on.

The article in the Nashville scene did not ruin Pastor Maurys Ministry - no matter how hard the Scene tried. You can't take down a man that God has his hand on, because you can't take down God. To the "other Scott" it wasn't Christians that exposed you to the article - it was the Nashville Scene that wrote it! So maybe you should step into church and be exposed to Christ and stop blaming Christians on worldly influences – that is the last thing we want to do. Alex - in case you don't know history - Jesus was a REAL man that walked on earth, whether you believe he came from God or not. Not a fictional creature.
Yes, Pastor Maury did commit murder – he has never kept it a secret –no matter how much he has wanted to erase his past. He did try to mend things with the family, and understandably they have found it hard to forgive. Since then, he has moved on to accomplish great things for the Lord. If we had to live in our past sins (lying, slander, greed, adultery, murder - whatever it may be) ALL of us would be tormented every day. Let the man move on. More importantly let the family of the murder victim move on! By writing these articles you are only bringing up terrible memories for them. I bet you would find it hard to go to their house and tell the gruesome story to their face. But because of your article, they still have to hear about it on the news and through your news magazine. Don’t act like you take pity on them because you don’t. If you did you would leave it alone.

Would you rather Pastor Davis continue to kill, deal drugs, and be a mennace to society?
This seems to be a success story to me, believe in Christ or not, he has not been arrested since being released. He has not killed anyone since 1975. His life is an example of a man spending his life trying to make up for past wrongs. If you would look back on your life, you would see many things that if possible you would change.

Also, I wish more reformed criminals were tax paying law abiding community activists.
As for his personal financial success, I would imagine that repentant men and women that work hard for a living, while trying to help others in the community, should not be rewarded. This whole Idea of exposing a crime that happened in 1975 makes you feel somewhat better about who you are... May God have mercy on your soul. Richard p.RuryII I live in Castallian Springs, maybe you can dig up something on me.......
