Wasting time at the rate of roughly $20,000 a day, the state House yucked it up this morning during a ridiculously long debate over whether to let diners take their dogs into sidewalk cafes.
Rep. John Litz: "Since we are allowed now to carry guns in restaurants, do we have the ability to shoot the dog?"
Rep. Curry Todd: "If I carry my pooch to a restaurant, I'm going to let him go armed so he won't have to worry about nobody shooting him."
Rep. Stacey Campfield: "If a dog is under 21 years of age, would he be able to go into a smoking restaurant and if so would that be dog years or human years?"
Rep. Ron Lollar: "My sister-in-law has three children. Their names are Ruff, Gruff and Spike. She would take them into the restaurant. Does this restrict the number of dogs?"
The bill finally passed by a vote of 64-21. So in counties with more than 100,000 population, city governments can vote to allow dogs into outdoor areas of restaurants. Our legislators have earned their pay today.
