The Senate plans to vote tomorrow on the state budget, the next step in the long and absurd low comedy that is the way the Tennessee government pays for itself each year. Finance committees meet this afternoon to amend the governor's recommendations in various relatively meaningless ways to make Republicans happy. Sen. Jim Kyle gave his colleagues the bad news this morning: They might actually have to stick around for a while and think about this stuff.
"It is my goal working with your finance committee to have those bills on the floor tomorrow to be voted on tomorrow. That may entail we work late tonight. That may entail we work all day tomorrow. I would hate for somebody to say I've got to leave at noon because they thought we were going to work until 11 like we usually do. ... Ladies and gentlemen, we are 20 days from the end of the fiscal year."
