  • Rep. Curry Todd sports his new look.
Tennessee Firearms Association director John Harris has failed to register as a lobbyist, even though that's what he does. "He's lobbied me before, and he has sent me position papers," Sen. Jim Kyle says. ... Getting ready for the big veto override vote today, Rep. Curry Todd complains critics are sensationalizing his guns-in-bars bill by portraying it as, well, a guns-in-bars bill. How dare they? ... The Memphis city council is taking action against gun bills. ... Handgun carry permit applications nearly double in Jackson. Tennesee's legislature is one of four in the South that's still in session. ... With most governors busy stanching the current budget bleeding, Phil Bredesen is among the few who have taken steps to head off future problems, according to the Wall Street Journal. ... Safety Department big wigs defend firing of the Snooper Trooper. ... The Senate passes Bredesen's plan to make Tennessee's state buildings and homes more energy efficient, then votes to restrict the use of traffic-ticket cameras. ... An expert warns of fish kills if the legislature passes a coal industry-backed bill. ... Frank Gibson observes the hypocrisy in the Tennessee Firearms Association's attempt to identify the law officers opposing guns-in-bars:
The comedy -- maybe paradox better describes it -- is the fact that the NRA and the TFA are also behind legislation to keep the public in the dark about who gets a permit to carry concealed weapons around in public. Tennesseans would not have a right to know when permits are issued to convicted felons, spouse abusers, stalkers and folks with histories of mental disorders.

A good point I've read and agree with is that if the anti gun people are convinced that the permit holders will break the law and drink while armed isn't this kind of a pointless fight, if they didn't mind breaking the law they would be already breakng it by carrying while they drink, instead of trying to change laws and abide by them like they are..
