The administration is briefing lawmakers on the governor's new budget proposals. Bredesen says he's found a way to avoid the layoffs mentioned in an early draft obtained by reporters yesterday. Lawmakers have agreed to restore funding for children's services, saving nearly 400 state jobs. More from the new budget proposal. ... Judicial selection bill goes to the full Senate. ... Rep. Susan Lynn's state sovereignty resolution passes the House. ... Feds OK state's schools stimulus spending plans. ... The House urges support for home schooling in Germany. What? ... Zach Wamp says he's following Ned McWherter's path to the governor's mansion. ... State GOP chair candidates comment on Kent Williams. Says Oscar Brock: "I'm not in the business of throwing anybody out of the party right now." ... The House sends the guns-in-parks bill to the governor. Metro parks director Roy Wilson:
"It's totally ridiculous. You can pick up any newspaper or listen to any newscast on any day, and there are horror stories of violence being committed in our city by people with guns. Why give them another avenue by which to use these guns?"
