The Metro Council votes 33-3 to begin land acquisition for the new convention center. ... Democrats discuss closing sales tax loopholes to make up the growing state budget shortfall, but House Speaker Kent Williams suggests spending more "rainy day" money. ... A compromise on the state's unemployment fund. ... It's the "express lane" for legislation on judicial selection. ... The governor appoints Kim McMillan's daughter to the state Board of Education. ... Off to summer study goes DUI license plates ... and the saggy pants bill. ... A bill to allow improperly obtained evidence also fails. ... A woman is accused of harassing GOP headquarters in Cookeville. ... The ACLU sues Metro schools to stop the censoring of gay websites. ... The Metro Council adopts a resolution opposing the Senate's gun-in-parks bill ... and the Commercial Appeal urges cities and counties to go ahead and vote to ban guns in their parks.
This move is necessary, unfortunately, because the state Senate voted this week to allow people with handgun carry permits to take their firearms into every state, city and county park in Tennessee. It means weapons could soon become as commonplace at community softball games as a catcher's mitt.

Ha, what? There was seriously a bill that would have allowed improperly obtained evidence to be used in court? That's the opposite of Constitutional. These people. Does no Amendment other than the 2nd matter to them? OH and the sponsor is a Sheriff's lieutenant. Clever.
