Your Genes Want You to Smoke

Smoking, in addition to making you cool and sexy, has a tendency to curb the food cravings. Anyone who's ever had Marlboros and coffee for breakfast (or lunch...or dinner) knows this. Anyone who's ever tried to quit knows this, especially when their oral fixation is transferred from sweet mother nicotine to mountains of cake. Now scientists, using science facts and the scientific method, have found that smoking may also enhance the activity of a gene that breaks down body fat. News you can use! Using my totally unbiased smoker's sense of reasoning, this basically means that there's no reason whatsoever in the world not to smoke. It makes you skinny on a genetic level with absolutely zero negative side effects. Scientists, meanwhile, are still working on finding the genetic link between cigarettes, better friends, and happier lives.

Just one question: where can I send a lifesized picture of a diseased lung?

Never Taterman. The only thing that slakes the lust for nicotine is an alternate delivery system.
Chewin' works, I've discovered after fifty years of puffing. I've prob'ly chewed about ten acres of the noxious weed. Never think about smoking though. Do what you have to.

Never. I quit 12 years ago and I still get cravings. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
But the good news is that the cravings decrease in intensity over time. What starts out as a really strong imperative to light up becomes like a nagging little itch that are easily ignored.

I came to learn months ago staffers at THE SCENE smoked and was a bit dismayed, but then one always has the vague feeling they are above the riffraff and can do as their Hollywood heroes, much envied NYT and Wash Post types do. I know these good eastern progressives, at least many, smoke. As for the west coast role models, well, what can I say.
Anyway, I believe the closet smoker, BHO, really made this possible. We know how they feel about him.
