Stacey Campfield: Why the Legislature's Fixated on the Culture Wars

On his Camp4u site, state Rep. Stacey Campfield explains why the legislature has spent so much time on culture war stuff while the economy burns. His take:

On the gun bills, yes we have passed a lot of gun bills this year but the fact is with the exception of the castle bill no real gun bills passed for about 20 years. Only more gun restrictions. When there are that many bills held back for so many years, then when things get even close to fair it is going to look like a waterfall. If one or two gun bills had passed every 4 or 5 years for the last 20 years would their be this uproar?

I doubt it.

The same will probably happen in a few years on several other issues when they get the numbers to pass. Issues like education reform, crime and punishment, life issues, election reform, illegal immigration and others. By stopping reasonable reforms for years the pressure to change is getting so great that when change does come it will look like a tsunami.
