Ward Cammack Offers Bullshit Disguised as Ideas in New Video

Posted by Jeff Woods on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 10:34 AM

Behold, an "issues" video from Ward Cammack, the unknown rich guy running for governor as a Democrat. Herein, he speaks his mind on the economy, health care and schools. He's obviously trying to cast himself as the can-do "ideas" candidate in the mold of Phil Bredesen. His early slogan: "Propositions not Oppositions." That's catchy. The problem is, his so-called ideas are pretty thin stuff. Here's one of his big ones on the economy: We need to see about landing some more energy-related jobs. He thinks it would be nice if everybody could afford health insurance, but damn the state government can't go bankrupt paying for it. Give him credit, though. He's very good at scrunching up his forehead when he's talking and that makes him look really thoughtful.

Gotta admit Woods has a point. If Cammack is going to get beyond the first-blush impression of a Belle Meade investment banker Republican-turned Democrat dilletante, then he needs a better schtick. I'm hopeful he can put it together-- a new voice is always helpful-- but there is a reason that newbies tend to fair so poorly in the big leagues.

So what are the other candidates talking about? How they want to climb up the career ladder by running for governor? At least Cammack is beginning a discussion on substantive issues.

Are we so conditioned to instant gratification that we expect an entire campaign in a two-minute video? A video released 18 months before the election no less.I think Cammack is simply introducing himself. Good idea. I don't know much about him at this point.

Granted, I've been close friends with "the unknown rich guy" for 25 years. But even if he were unknown to me, I'd be perplexed by your need to characterize anything he says as bullshit. Is this theme in your punditry supposed to be witty or something. I'm missing the point.

honestly I remember working for Barack Obama when everyone was saying "he had no ideas" --- when you are new you must let people know what you stand for, and how you see the world. It's clear that cammack understands BIG issues.. but don't make this seem like it's the end of his campiagn.
You are foolish if you don't see how serious he is taking this campaign. Pretty soon you are going to see big ideas from him, and you are still going to be asking what the other "candidates" are doing.

Bullshit is a pretty strong word and, after watching the video, completely unfounded. I have to agree that Cammack does seem to be the only one putting this stuff out there. Time will tell but don't write him off yet. He is clearly taking this campaign seriously.
