Where Are Those George Will Conservatives When You Need Them?

  • Why can't people amass in the streets to protest blue jeans?
Last week's tea parties showed a new and improved conservative movement. Instead of braying from the church pews and board rooms, they took to the street, loudly demonstrating... well... we're not quite sure, but they definitely want something done about it. Immediately.

It was the kind of raucous, noisy, public affair you don't expect from the right. That made us nostalgic for days of old, when tweedy rightists like George Will took on more weighty issues, like the popularity of denim.

Just last week, our hero blasted the preponderance of blue jeans, seeing it as a sign of the downfall of America, if not civilization itself. Clearly, George Will doesn't like people who don't dress like George Will. Now that's an issue we can all get behind. An excerpt:

Denim is the infantile uniform of a nation in which entertainment frequently features childlike adults ("Seinfeld," "Two and a Half Men") and cartoons for adults ("King of the Hill"). Seventy-five percent of American "gamers" -- people who play video games -- are older than 18 and nevertheless are allowed to vote. In their undifferentiated dress, children and their childish parents become undifferentiated audiences for juvenilized movies (the six -- so far -- "Batman" adventures and "Indiana Jones and the Credit-Default Swaps," coming soon to a cineplex near you).

Despite being such an uptight wanker with questionable political views, George Will seems fairly intelligent. Which is why I find it so surprising that he apparently has no clue how hysterically ironic it is that HE would be offering fashion advice. I mean, look at that picture! Any man who looks up to Tucker Carlson for sartorial direction, well...enough said.
I'm pretty sure if you look up "curmudgeon" in Merriam-Webster, you'll find a picture of George Will there.

Will was hilarious on This Week yesterday. Gave some long wonkish description of what the teabaggers were all about last week. Then Sam Donaldson comes on and says BS, it was just the rightwingers' hatred of Obama. Which is true.
