Cuba, the Commie Cure to our Economic Woes

A missive from our new correspondent, the Nashville Minx: Monday, President Barack Obama took a stride towards a kinder, more gentle nation by easing restrictions regarding travel to and money sent to the little commie-island of Cuba. But don't pack your bags for a Cuban vacation yet, my WASPy little friends; the eased restrictions for travel to Cuba only applies to those who have family in our cigar-smoking neighbor to the South. The Obama administration is allowing United States telecommunication firms to set-up shop in Cuba (granted Cuba will allow such modernist democratic luxuries), the first big step toward terminating one of the world's longest standing economic embargos. Our liberal humanitarian president has better intentions in mind. Through improved relations with Cuba the United States hopes to influence Cuba's communist regime to follow our democratic lead. I suppose we believe that if the United States allows Cuba to again pursue economic exchange with us that Cuba will finally, after years as a socialist state, see the light of democracy, which they have so vehemently resisted in past years. All this from the powerful, gracious hand of our honorable Barack Obama. Obama isn't policing Cuba like we did in the 50s and 60s, but just giving it a gentle nudge in the right direction, that direction being democratic of course, because as any true red, white and blue-blooded American knows, democracy is the life-blood of any stable modern nation... So while you United Nations liberals sing the praises of our humanitarian superman who labors so that these oppressed communist Cubans may be able to experience the swank of a mobile phone and republicanized individualism, I think we should consider the real motive. Money. It's no secret that America's economy is about as rich as Australian farmland. So what a better ploy to increase export and exchange than reignite economic relations with this labile nation? We'll take any financial boost we can worm our fingers around at this point, and if that means opening the trade flood gates with a nation that wanted to blow us to smitherines about 50 years ago, who cares? Who remembers the Cuban Missile Crisis anyways? Do they even teach children about conflicts that were not resolved in America's favor? Obama will be seen as the great liberator who mended decades of tarnished international relations and refinished world perspective of America. Good intentions as they may be, what gall do we have to suspect that Cuba will dance at our wedding, that they should jump at our offer and fail to see that the United States is still trying to influence the world order and make every country a little America, a little version of ourselves, that we can maneuver and bleed for our own economic advantage. It didn't work in Vietnam, it didn't work in the Bay of Pigs and it damn sure isn't working in Iraq and Afghanistan. But hey, maybe those commies will see the futility of their socialistic ideals and revert back to capitalism, the very hell they were running from in the first place. Maybe?

Nice. You set up a straw man and attack the straw man quite successfully.
Did you ever consider that there might be other reasons for easing the embargo? Like maybe engaging the Cubans in a greater world commerce and perhaps giving them a reason to engage with us?
How about the economic benefits to the Cubans of no longer having an embargo?
Not everything has to be about proselytizing people towards democracy. The US could benefit from a friendly Cuba in ways other than making them be democratic or pilfering their resources. There is always simple common sense and simple humanity.
You have no way of knowing what is on President Obams's mind and yet you broadcast your assumptions as if they were unquestioned truth.
Did you learn that in some journalism school, or did you get it from watching Fox and MSNBC?

S elector or reader was always employed to entertain the cigar factory Cuban Cigars workers.

yeah this is white buffalo and i am reaslly disgraced by the fact that i specificaly wanted to personally help my little angelitos snd chose them way before obamam stepped in. Mattter of fact it is just a smack ion the face after he has taken many of my ideas to the other parts of the world. I do not mind if it is in his heart to help. I am realy not sure of hids motives. Oprah has south africa, I plan on helping my homeland but those angels have a special place where i wantesd to help. I specifically wrote a respected chief warrant officer in the army about the commodoties of banans, bauxite, sugar, cocoa and coffee approximately four years ago , We all know they have been exploited with coffee trade for years now. Are the crops I predicted flourishing now? Why is he more interested in polictical oil and nuclear motivated cuba and commerce rather than the children who eat trash and drink sewer water and have poor health care. That was my first thought with whom to help and those commodoties. Iy is obvious that this is political and wall street monopoly motivated, I would also like to say I feel very strongly, as did when Bush was in offfice, that there is a secret group here in Nashville with the select few and violating individuals privacy rights. There is more than one subject, idea I wrote about that I have heard obama use. When bush was in offfice I had been arrested on a misdemeanor charge. After being fingerprinted they showed me a picture of myself of several years back with my eyes closed and my curios george shirt on. This was an obvious direct form of intimidation and an altered photo. I have also noticed, while bush was in office, his presidential limousine alongside a middle eastern mercedes at the Knights end near north first street and the bridge. I have been also lied to and harassed by more than one probation officer at the "justice center" stating , after looking on there computers, that had not called them in eight months. Another time cynthia cossey never would call me but I would be threatened by her through my mother. It is obvious this bellsouth computer technology, washington connection and the secret free mason society are monopoloizing and exploiting us in and near davidson county. I would say too the :close connection" to new york atracts them to this controled comunication and or illegal technology to obtain a upper hand on monopolizing commerce, technology and world trade. This town really needs to wake up to the criminal activity surrounding this freee masonry cult of a government.

I don’t understand it. Obama wants a better relationship with Cuba and so he eased the travel and money sent to the little island of Cuba. Then why not everyone? Why only people who has relative in Cuba can travel. The same thing applies to the Cuban cigar. Why aren’t they legal in here in the US? It’s difficult for me to find Cuban cigars in my place.

It is really exciting that Obama understood the present scenario and allowed people to travel to the little Island of Cuba who have their relatives in Cuba but why not all the people. He also should remove the embargo from Cuba to help them in their economy. And also we will be able to get the great Cuban Cigars at ease.

There is no problem in talking to Cuban government once again. It will definitely be a great achievement for Obama's government if they will be able to get rid of the embargo. That will improve the current economy and will be able to fight against the recession. As a smokers i will love this as i will be able to get the great Cuban cigars in USA.
