The bill to permit the sale of wine in grocery stores is officially dead for the year. The Associated Press reports Rep. David Shepard has withdrawn it from a House subcommittee.
The Dickson Democrat says the move reflects a lack of support among enough lawmakers in either chamber of the Legislature, and a failure to reach a compromise with retailers and wholesalers.The bill was barely alive in the Senate anyway. It ran into an unbeatable combination of opponents: Liquor lobbyists and Christian crazies.

Remember JT LeRoy, that fake author who was famous for a hot minute? I remember reading that in a memoir, he said he lived in Tennesse for a second and would steal wine from grocery stores and I was like "NO YOU DIDN'T YOU LIAR." I could have scooped the literary world with that dumb-ass fact if I, you know, cared.
