Junior Won't Run for Governor

Hah! Bowing to the wishes of the awesomely influential Pith in the Wind, Harold Ford Jr. has announced he's not running for governor. We didn't ask him not to run but just to make up his freakin' mind. Thank, you, Junior. Ford was typically condescending in his announcement, deigning to reveal to the Democrats just how they should run this race. His thoughtful advice: Talk about stuff that matters. No kidding? And of course, Junior still cares deeply for Tennessee and he'd really, really like to do something nice for his state, just not now. The timing isn't right. He's busy making money at the moment.

First Lincoln Davis and now Harold Ford. Democrats can stop dreaming now of a white knight for 2010. They are left without a big name to run for governor. You'd have to consider Roy Herron one of the favorites at this point. What does that tell you? Junior is out, so the way is clear for the candidates to raise money. Now the question is, does anybody really want to give to them?

Update: A coup for Chip Forrester. Junior will keynote the Jackson Day Dinner.

This from the 24/7 Chip Forrester Network. LOL!

Herron or McMillan will be just fine, thanks.

Almost every single candidate in this race, both sides, is an old-line political party animal. Nothing new. We need somebody new. These people are all running because it's the next highest rung on their career ladder.
We don't need another career politician. We need someone new.

Congressman Lincoln Davis (D-TN) is going to remain in Congress, right?
He is one of my favorite congressional Democrats. Harold Ford, Jr. (D-TN) was good as well, but the thing is, I have heard from several Tennessee conservatives that his moderate (i.e. - progressive, for a Democrat; that term has been used properly, unlike is frequently the case!!) positioning is phony. I hope that is not the case.
U.S. Congressmen John Duncan, Jr. (R-TN) and Zach Wamp (R-TN) are not only the two best members of your state's congressional delegation, but are two of the greatest members of Congress in recent memory.

A coup? Hardly. Word around Democratic circles is that Chip turned Jackson Day over to Elisa Parker, TNDP vice chair, which is why they're having the event in Franklin. Elisa spent all weekend making frantic phone calls trying to find a speaker. She finally got someone to agree.
In 2006, it made sense that Ford and Bredesen were the speakers at Jackson Day. They headed our ticket that year. In a non-election year, the Jackson Day speaker is usually an out-of-state luminary, but I don't think there is anyone at TNDP with the connections to pull that off.
Ford, frankly, is a TV talking head that announced today that he will not run for governor. Was there anyone out there that sincerely thought he was still considering this race?
He feels like a consolation prize speaker, if you ask me.

Let's have Tim McGraw run as a Democrat, and John Rich run as a Republican.
John Rich would get mad regardless of the outcome, pout, and then sue....

Aakash, what? Not sure what Wamp and Duncan have to do with this posting but wasn't Wamp the guy who thought Fred Thompson was the answer to this nation's problems? That alone disqualifies him for "greatest members of Congress in recent memory."

What a collection of retreads. Herron, Ramsey, McMillan, Haslam, McWherter, Wamp . . . political addicts.
Man, nothing ever changes in Tennessee, does it?
