No insiders, informed or otherwise, are touting Mike as the likely nominee. That's completely bogus. He's simply not the guy.
Best bet is probably Roy Herron. Has real talent and a great back story. Strong ties into various camps and has a state-wide network. But we'll have to see how it plays out....
Herron and McWherter are both West Tennessee political insiders. Same old song and dance. We need someone new. The Tennessee Democratic Party isn't the same old group of people that it was 20 years ago.
Herron is a nice man, smart, likeable and will work well in the rural areas. He's been around Nashville long enough but can he charm the big city folk into separating their cash from their wallets?
Look, I love Cilizza, and he does a great job liveblogging White House press conferences. But Cilizza is not the guy I'd count on for prognostication on Tennessee politics. Who the heck are the 'insiders' in the party now, anyway? The people who dedicate countless hours volunteering at the party office? The lobbyists inside the Washington beltway? Or Bredesen's staffers who post troll comments on blogs and seem not to have real jobs?
