Associated Press Baffled By Internets, YouTube; Flails Blindly

Posted by Brantley Hargrove on Thu, Apr 9, 2009 at 12:37 PM

So, the AP has been on a bit of a downward spiral--evaporating subscribers balking at high rates--but now it's gone all Metallica on us.

They've announced they're going to be policing "unauthorized use" of their content on the Internet, which led the bland monolith on a misguided collision course with a teeny tiny lil' radio station outside of Knoxville.

It would seem the wire service doesn't understand the basic tenets of YouTube, and threatened the station--WTNQ in La Follette--for embedding their video feed. Of course, when you post a video on YouTube, you pretty much give up any right to control distribution. And it's looking like they didn't know they had a YouTube news feed to begin with. Check out the interview above with blogger Christian Grantham.
