Rainbow Coalition of Douchebags Tell Us How Gay Marriage Hurts the Straights

Posted by Brantley Hargrove on Wed, Apr 8, 2009 at 3:13 PM

Watch and laugh and tell me, PITW readers, in the end how each of these people has proven some direct, causal link between gay marriage and actual harm in their lives. Iowa, now Vermont...these straights (bigots) at the National Organization for Marriage are gettin' antsy. Notice the wicked storm visuals in the background, replete with lightning strikes. Did Jerry Bruckheimer direct this? And in the outtakes, check out the tool at the very end with the faux-hawk and lame Ed Hardy T-shirt. File under classic dissembling...

Sorry, but the slave owners had to change how THEY lived. Anti-slaver stuff is now taught at schools.
If we used the logic of the first whiny video, blacks would still be slaves because we did not want to incontinence the slave owners.

Are you telling me these people in the second video are walk on actors? Or are they part of the cult? And where on their website do they cite current hetero divorce statistics? In the talking points section?

As a straight male who has been married 40 years, I say that:
1. Two gays down the road getting married is none of my business.
2. I'm not interested in or worry about what my neighbors are doing in their bedroom.
3. Gay marriage will not hurt my straight marriage or the marriage of anyone else.
4. Fact: Only 17% of gay couples in Canada even bother to get married because the laws are just. The same would (and WILL BE) for Utah and other states.
5. Young people have abandoned and the Republican Party will abandon these anti-gay crusades. Even now, some Republicans are wondering about the evil direction of their party (the Limbaugh, Hannity, and Palin wackos).
6. There is nothing wrong with being gay and expressing your sexuality in a responsible way.
7. For almost all human beings, having sex is part of full life.
8. It is cruel and immoral to demand that people live like monks and nuns.
9. Gay marriage will be good for America!
10. Finally, chill out and mind your own business. That an old American virtue.

To the old fogies:
Gay marriage will be good for America. The young people and many others are not buying the anti-gay moralizing. Your little movie was laughable.
As a democrat, I love watching the Republican Party commit slow suicide with their anti-gay rhetoric. Keep it up! Your backpedaling will be a marvel to behold when your leadership finally wakes up to a new reality.
Would a honest Republican please tell me what gay marriage has to do with a balanced budget and less government spending (traditional Republican values)?
FACT OF THE FUTURE: The tying of the right-wing moral agenda to the Republican Party will prove to be the greatest political mistake ever made in America.
FACT OF THE FUTURE: The involvement of churches in anti-gay crusades will prove to have been extremely unwise and something that the next generation of religious people will have to backpedal like crazy.

Roger Carrier is smart man!
Good Post!
The problem is that a lot of people don't think like Roger does. I laugh that the party that claims to want "small government" also wants the Federal Government to step into peoples bedroom and tell them what goes where?
The GOP is lost!!

Have hope. I'm 63, and by the time I'm 73 (if I'm lucky enough to live that long), gay marriage will be the most boring subject in America.
A gay couple getting married on the steps of the Utah State Capitol Building will not even make the news.
As a straight male who has been married 40 years, I am very suspicious of so-called straights who go on anti-gay crusades. Where is that energy coming from? If you wait long enough, these anti-gay crusaders wind up arrested in a public restroom or at a motel with a same-sex prostitute.
True straights don't give a hoot about what gays are doing. It makes you wonder about a straight male or female who spends 24/7 trolling the internet to find out what gays do in the bedroom.
You can lie to your congregation, but not to straight people with any sense.

I say KEEP THOSE ADS COMING, freaks!
This is only HELPING the Gay & Lesbian civil rights cause.
Much like Prop 8 in California, things like this only HELP us by exposing, on a GLOBAL scale, just how discriminatory our Government is toward same-sex couples.
Individuals are welcome to believe whatever they would like to about Gays & Lesbians. Your belief system is yours and yours alone. Now if only we could get you to keep it that way. Hmmmm... Perhaps a Prop 9 is in order?
However, the GOVERNMENT is not allowed to treat it's citizens unequally. That you don't happen to like it is really of no consequence.
Sorry, freaks. You LOST. Go cry in your soup over what you lost. What was it again that you lost? Oh yeah, that's right - NOTHING!
See y'all at my big gay wedding.

Well if only the mind your own business theory worked, I could buy into the argument.
But when we begin to discuss the reality of legal ramifications instead of fantasy, the reality is that homosexual activists immediately begin to chip away at freedom of speech, religion and thought.
Gay marriage is LEGAL they argue, so henceforth they'll teach our children about it with NO ABILITY for opt out clauses. (See David Parker in Mass.)
And then you can't preach about it because religion might offend the legally sanctioned. (See Canada Human Rights Commissions for litany of speech abuses. See New Mexico for similar ruling.)
Frankly, the excuse that this is about rights is a hoax almost as grand as Gore's global warming. This has never been about "rights," it is about moral equivalency. Name a couple who today can't make a vow to each other and live in a same sex relationship.
As far as gay marriage being good for America as Roger Carrier says, how would that be? Will Americans continue the path to suicide like other countries taking such course? They're dying. They're not even replacing their own populations.
The result is a childless and perverse society. Muslims are filling the ranks while the silly-heads congratulate themselves that they can screw like animals on the Discovery Channel...well, minus the reproduction!! (See Folsom Street Festival and Up Your Alley Zombietime: http://zombietime.com/up_your_alley_2008/) Being a slave to your lusts is freedom! Orwellian!
And progressive sites like this one bash Christians who only express their sincere belief in love for a neighbor that such acts (not the temptation) are sinful and separate man from God.
This is quite unlike the real mullahs, who hang and torture homosexuals, who you won't find being criticized in the pages of the Nashville Scene. Christians are easy pickins', aren't they?

No, they bash right-wing Christians who try to ram their beliefs down everyone else's throats and use selective morality on a daily basis. And global warming is real, not a hoax, as 90% of all scientists attest to. Geez.

"But when we begin to discuss the reality of legal ramifications instead of fantasy, the reality is that homosexual activists immediately begin to chip away at freedom of speech, religion and thought."
Wait a minute, Terry. Who's chipping away at freedom of religion? Why can't your neighbor believe that being a homosexual DOESN'T separate him or herself from God?
If you love your neighbor as sincerely as you claim, you would allow him the freedom to discover for himself the best course for his life instead of trying to legislate that he follow your religion.
As far as criticizing those who hang and torture homosexuals, that's a pretty obvious bait and switch, there, brother. "Okay, okay, we don't want you to get married; but we're not hanging and torturing you, so give us a break, okay?"
For your argument that if it's legalized, preaching about homosexuality will lose its social acceptance, I can almost give you that one. The problem is that society (by definition) advances itself, and the status norm changes. That's sort of the nature of the beast. We don't hear much preaching anymore about ladies' dresses being cut above the ankles. Nor is there a debate that flying in airplanes is an abomination, and that if man were meant to fly, he'd have been given wings like the angels. And I'll bet your pastor doesn't do much preaching about not laying with your wife when she's in her monthly way, nor does he bring up the best way to divorce your wife, or mention that you should tie tassels to the four corners of your garments. These apparently were pretty hot topics during Moses' time, but we don't hear much about them today outside strict Orthodox circles.
Somehow the "abomination" of homosexuality has been re-ignited and many of the other named abominations have been left on the wayside, deemed as irrelevant in today's culture. How well do you know your abominations? Did you know that eating seafood without fins or scales (like shrimp, crabs, lobster, and oysters) is an abomination? Or a woman wearing a man's garment or vice versa? Or for one of my personal favorites, look up this gem: Deuteronomy 24:1-4.
And as far as committing suicide and no longer reproducing, that's just about the silliest idea I've ever heard. Have you taken a look around at the young people today? They're popping them out like bunnies, and there doesn't seem to be any end in sight. Our society is far from childless. As far as perversion goes, we're still a relatively young country; I'd put us at about our adolescence. We were founded by Puritans who thought all good feelings were naughty, and we're in our early teenage giggly ha ha rebellious years trying to break out of our awkward phase. I hope we do it soon because I'm tired of the taboos regarding the human body, sex, breastfeeding and the like. But that's a rant for a different column.

Hey Terry, Jesus here. Listen man, I am an all knowing and all loving God, which you might remember from that book those folks wrote about me called The Bible. Well that means I not only love gay people, but in my eyes they are just the same as you. And remember, I also created them, so are you telling me I was wrong, cause I don't want to, but I'll smote you if I must. Probably with locusts, I haven't used that one in a while. And Terry, you know something, when I decide to come back to town, you and the folks like you are gonna be the first ones I "look up" cause you have been speaking for me for far too long now and you just can't seem to get it right.
Praise Me, Amen.

Pretty bold to write as Jesus, and note, I didn't raise the Christ issue, the post did. Yes, gay people are the same as me. And so are murderers, and child abusers and cheats and rapists and liars. And guess what? Christ does love us all because we are sinners, hence the need for His very appearance if you are indeed a believer in His sacrifice.
Please don't attempt such childish twisting of Christ's love. If I accept your logic, then to love a murderer must I love murder? Must I love theft to love the thief? Must I condone child molestation to love the molester? Clearly, not. Is it possible to love such individuals? Yes, we are commanded to do so. But obviously we do not love the behaviors.
And that leads to Conscience Otter's misunderstanding of loving your neighbor. If you clearly do love your brother and believe your faith, then how would you not tell your neighbor your belief in sin?
To ignore it would surely be a true lack of concern, as so many parents exhibit today with their own children. Why do so many young people crave parental discipline? Examine the polling. It is clearly because taking the time to address harmful behaviors, actions and choices does show love and young people know it.
And while you may feel that young people are "popping out children" left and right, you need only look at the Census numbers. If it were not for immigration, we'd more resemble the dead and dying West--from Italy to Japan, they are indeed approaching a real life version of the movie Children of Men. Even with immigration we're only a small fraction above our replacement rate.
Our Canadian friends are already seeing legal challenges by polygamists. As only logic would have it, though same sex proponents have denied it, to destroy one part of the definition while trying to uphold the number is a failing enterprise. See Canada too for immigration games played with same sex marriage in order to skirt immigration and polygamy laws.
The intent has been to destroy the institution itself and mission is being accomplished.

I find it oddly ironic that you find my way of loving my neighbor (which is strikingly similar to that of the New Testament's Jesus) to be a misunderstanding on my part. I remember reading that Jesus ate and talked with many "sinners", and yet the only preaching he did to them was to show them how to be more loving. Correct me if my memory is inaccurate, but the only finger wagging I recall reading about was directed at the religious sect.
I also don't recall ever reading about Jesus lobbying the Roman government to try to enact laws forbidding idol worship, public orgies, or other such practices of the day. The only time he even touched on government and its influence in our lives was that when questioned about paying taxes, Jesus answered that we should obey the law.
The Jesus I remember reading about loved indiscriminately and challenged only those who claimed to be holier than thou.
You asked that if I loved my neighbor, would I not tell him about my belief in sin? If my neighbor was interested in my belief in sin, yes, I would discuss it with him. But you see, first and foremost, I believe in the golden rule. I treat others the way I want to be treated. I personally prefer that my neighbors not constantly vex me about the state of my soul if we do not share the exact same religious beliefs, nor do I want my neighbor to lobby for laws that infringe on my rights to marry whomever I choose.
I agree with you healthy boundaries (whether set by parents for their children or by the law for all citizens) are needed in order to maintain a cohesive society. I'll even go out on a limb and say that we probably feel similarly about a lot of the moral decline due to lax parenting and the selfishness prevalent in our society. However, it is not the place of any one religion to ensure that all laws reflect its own moral code to the detriment of the freedoms of others.
For the sake of the argument, let's say that we're not multiplying, but merely reproducing at a 1:1 rate. Honestly, is that so bad? Seems to me that having more people requiring even more resources isn't necessarily the best course for Planet Earth or for the population thereof. Historically, most wars are fought because of limited resources, and if more people are using them, surely more battles will be fought over them.
As far as your claim that the intent of allowing same-sex marriage is an attempt to destroy the institution of marriage itself, who or what would benefit from that?

report
Posted by Conscience Otter on 04/09/2009 at 10:00 PM

Destroying the institution of marriage - someone please tell me how legalizing gay marriage can do that.
Couples can get married by an Elvis-impersonator in Vegas, jumping out of airplanes, under water wearing scuba gear - any number of non-sacred, not-in-a-church ceremonies.
The divorce rate (among heterosexuals, mind you) is just over 50%. The rate for 2nd marriage or above is well over 50%.
In most states legal adults can get married without a blood test, without pre-marital counseling, without any proven capability to sustain a healthy relationship - and often simply because they're expecting a child.
It's easy to get married and (usually) easy to get a divorce.
Where is the "sanctity of marriage" in any of these facts?
