Harwell Votes Against Guns-in-Bars: Is She Next in Line for GOP Excommunication?

There she goes again, behaving like a reasonable person. State Rep. Beth Harwell was one of only two Republicans to vote tonight against that fabulous bill to let drunken rednecks carry their guns into saloons in Tennessee (or as advocates describe it, the bill to allow patriotic law-abiding citizens with handgun carry permits to dine peacefully with their weapons in restaurants that happen to serve alcoholic beverages).

Harwell has been skating on thin ice with the Republicans for some time. You may recall, as a member of the House Ethics Committee, she led the successful move to dismiss the complaint against Speaker Kent Williams for telling Rep. Susan Lynn that he'd give a week's pay to see her naked. And then Harwell actually told GOP chair Robin Smith not to kick Williams out of the party.

Tonight's vote is strike three, as far as Pith is concerned. You cannot belong to the Republican Party in Tennessee and disobey the National Rifle Association. It's as simple as that. Let Pith be the first to demand the excommunication of Beth Harwell from the GOP. Kick her out now!

Update: I've just been reminded that Harwell also voted with Democrats to crack down on campaign operatives like Glen Casada's little minion who set up fake websites to mess with their opponents. Really, Harwell should just switch parties.

Keep 'em coming, Jeff.
Your anti-gun rants are always amusing, often just plain laughable. Thanks.

His ongoing rants, satirical or otherwise, about what he thinks both parties should or shouldn't be is pretty eye-rolling, too. Love the quotes from actual Republicans verifying animosity towards Harwell. Where's Harwell on FONCE? Or is that rant only reserved for certain Democrats?

It's too bad (but not shocking) that Wyatt Earp had more sense than Tennessee Republicans (except for Harwell)!
