1. Rep. Susan Lynn: Worried that benefits for food stamps, unemployment and welfare are getting too luxurious, she's calling for recipients to face random drug testing. Never mind that it would cost the state millions to set up such a program. Lynn wants to make sure the jobless guy who occasionally hits the bong truly suffers as much as possible. In related news, she's also calling for orphans to swear allegiance to Suze Orman before receiving their daily portion of gruel.
2. Rep. Stacey Campfield: Keeping with this week's Let's F#%$ With Poor People theme, Campfield (R-Slumlord) wants to bar those on public assistance from winning the lottery. The bill would also bar people from going to the movies, purchasing costumes for Halloween, and tipping waitresses.
3. Rep. Glen Casada: He's authored a bill barring government from confiscating weapons during martial law. After all, the End Times are fast upon us. It's only a matter of days before Cub Scout troops, trial lawyers, and bird-watching enthusiasts band together in armed insurrection. Casada doesn't want Phil Bredesen and his black helicopters taking their guns. He'd prefer police be forced to shoot it out until everyone's out of ammo, which should occur in 2073.
4. Butch Spyridon: Nashville's tourism chief apparently hasn't heard of the depression, which is causing a slowdown in the convention industry. So he blamed "media sensationalism and harmful rhetoric coming out of Washington" for hurting business. He also blamed Michael J. Fox for Parkinson's Disease, and cute bunnies for not being made of candy when you're trying to eat them on Easter.
5. Bob Krumm: The conservative blogger decided to protest Earth Hour by running up his own electric bill. For his next trick, he'll protest male-pattern baldness by scalping himself in traditional Indian fashion, then bleeding to death on his bathroom floor.

What about the Rep who wants a law allowing Tennessee law enforcement to rout out "terrorists" by busting into homes without a warrant? Or was that last week?

People getting handouts/free money shouldn't be doing drugs. They don't have to take a drug test...OR get free money, either. Seems like a pretty reasonable proposition. Want something that isn't yours? Here is one condition. What is the problem, here? Can you truly back up your position with something of substance? If someone has money for drugs (or to gamble)...why do they need free money stolen from others buy the govt?

Let's stop giving food stamps and other "handouts" to everyone whose behavior doesn't meet our personal standards. Because what this city really needs is an escalation in the number of hungry, homeless drug addicts panhandling on every street corner.

This may be the dumbest thing a politician has said this year.
I smoke pot nearly every day and I value my health so I don't drink booze at all plus it's much more expensive. A night out of drinking would pay for my pot for about a month. I spend about $150 a month on pot which is pretty cheap. I have a good job (I earn 200k), pay my mortgage (bought it when I was 25 and have never missed a payment), and do a lot for my fellow man.
Our GOP in this State is out of control, they are responding to their idiot redneck followers that are still upset that a black man is president and want to do everything in their power against blacks and people that need help from the government.
I'm white wealthy and voted for Obama and am sick as hell of these racist foolish politicians attacking the poor!

You are a scared lemming! If I lived on the streets and had nothing the few minutes of diversion that drugs give is more of a coping method not the cause. Instead of diverting government funds for drug testing wouldn't it be better spent in the form of prevention or actual help. Drug tests aren't free!

I guess my point of picking Lynn was the extraordinary costs for labor in collecting samples and farming them out to a private contractor for analyzing. And with the unemployment rate closing in on 10 percent, you're talking about testing people who've spent their entire lives working and providing, people whose only sin is encountering the bad luck of the economy.
