Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey says he wants to change the law that bars him from raising campaign cash during the legislative session. If the law is changed this session, Ramsey could rake it in during next year's session for the 2010 election. Can you say shakedown?
"To tie someone's hand when they're in the legislature when they're running for another office doesn't seem fair. The governor himself can raise money, if you're a sitting congressman you can raise money, why shouldn't someone in the legislature, if they're running for an office also be able to raise money. So that's something we need to look at seriously."
It looks like the Republican candidates for governor were campaigning over the weekend in Clarksville, Nashville, possibly Lebanon and maybe Franklin. Pith can't keep track. The highlights:

Bill Haslam disses Tennessee schools:  "If our state was a nation, we would not be ranked among countries like Japan. We would be among the countries of the former Soviet Union."

GOP big wig John Ryder disses Haslam. If he has a personal story to tell, he needs to figure out what it is, and quickly, Ryder says. Otherwise, he'll come off like a rich daddy's boy. "Haslam's got to find a way to convince voters that he does have that common touch," Ryder says. In other words, unless Tom Ingram can figure out a way to sell a fairy-tale bio for Haslam--preferably something involving bootstraps and hard work--voters might actually go with the truth, and Haslam wouldn't want that.

Ron Ramsey is taking credit for anything good that's happened since he became lieutenant governor. "I've helped get things done. We've had huge successes, such as the Hemlock Semiconductor plant here," he says in Clarksville. Did he land those jobs? Wow!

Zach Wamp isn't worried if we're turning into Kyrgyzstan.  He spells out what's important for the Tennessee GOP: "Life, marriage, guns, taxes and immigration. That's the platform on which our party should stand."

But everybody's troubled because we're accepting all that federal stimulus money for unemployment benefits. It's "not a good precedent" to help laid-off workers feed their families, Wamp warns.

Jeff...surely you aren't going to let Ramsey get away with this without calling him out????
He's wanting to change the rules just for himself!!!!
Talk about self serving. Figured you of all people would be raising the BS flag on this one!
Give him hell Jeff!
