Just down the street from Hattie Cotton Elementary School, all the ingredients necessary for a psychedelic party were being cultivated, grown, whatever.

Joshua and Cynthia Sharp along with brother Christopher were arrested Monday night on suspicion of growing marijuana and possession of hallucinogenic mushroom spores, all of which took place in a drug-free zone on Greenwood Avenue. Police also popped the dealers Sharp for keeping a loaded 12-gauge shotgun near the pot.

Confiscated were 55 marijuana plants, seven pounds of processed grass, one ounce of mushrooms, several syringes filled with spores and all the accouterments you'd expect in your friendly neighborhood drug house.

Apparently it was also something of a one-stop shop. Across the street is a daycare operated by other members of the family, police say.

The shame to this report is the lack of reporting. Nice cut and paste job from the MNPD press release.
Had you bothered to look into this story, you would know that the biggest part of this tragedy is the fact that the day care is one of the best in the state of TN. It is operated by the mother of the Sharpe's and she was unaware of the activity. She has worked hard to provide exceptional child care for many years. She is a nationally accredited provider and currently ranked 3 (out of 3) stars in Tennessee, an achievement less than 1/3 of child care facilities in that neighborhood can boast.
Too bad thorough reporting is to much to ask; it is much easier to take cheap shots at someone's well-earned reputation. Guilt by association is a dangerous practice, one i beg you to reconsider the next time you write a story.

Gone are the days of journalism.
Today anyone can write an article and not even have to check the facts of the story. I apoligize, I guess he had the facts but wasn't concerned about the damage he would cause the daycare by omitting that the daycare had nothing to do with or knowledge of what was happening across the street. The writer was porbably going for the dramatic. Making it more of a story than it was and thinking more people would read it.
Unfortunatly when someone reads that article they are going to believe what was written there and go no further to find out more.
One bad story can tear down a reputation that has taken years to build.
I have been a friend of the Sharps for 29 years and I know what the owner of the Daycare has done for the children who have been lucky to go there. She has gone way beyond what other daycares do to make sure the children are safe, happy and well taken care of. And making far less money than she could if she worked at a public job.

I am one of the children that has been going to this daycare since i was a little girl. Mr. and Mrs. Sharp were really broke hearted by this and they didn't know that their sons and daughter- in- law were doing this. I agree with what everyone has said that there is no reason for this article to have been published except to make up crap to ruin all of this for that family. I have known this family and treat them like my own. I still respect Mr. and Mrs. Sharp for going through this and being strong for everyone around them and not giving up on everything they have worked for. When i found out about all of this I was hurt but this article took it way too far.

My daughter started going to the daycare when she was 6 weeks old and she is now in her teens. All of the children there are treated with love and kindness and are well cared for and for you to even insinuate any different is ridiculous. I've been a family friend of theirs now for many years and you'll never find a more caring and generous family that the Sharps. Mrs. Sharp is very well known in the child advocacy community of working to better the conditions and treatment of children especially in daycares and her daycare has continued to have the highest scoring possible in Tennessee. Before you write an article and so flippantly try to discredit someone for the sake of an article you really need to get your facts straight and realize how by trying to be cute you are dealing with people's live and livelihoods.
