Let Freedom Ring! House Overwhelmingly Votes for Gun Bills

Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show arrived with great fanfare on the state House floor this morning, with those crowd-pleasing buckaroos voting in near unanimity to liberalize gun laws in ways never before contemplated by modern civilized society. "We want to be the safest state in the union with the most freedom possible," Rep. Phillip Johnson declared as the first of the legislature's many gun bills flew out of the House chamber. Yippee-aye-oh-ky-aye! The House voted 88-2 to bar the Safety Department from asking handgun permit holders to give the serial numbers of their pistols. The Safety Department apparently doesn't ask for this information anyway, but there's no point in taking any risks with our Second Amendment freedoms. "Would that information be helpful in identifying stolen weapons or weapons used in crimes?" Rep. G.A. Hardaway asked innocently just before the House voted and burst into applause at the lopsided outcome. The vote was 89-1 to make it a little less risky, legally speaking, for homeowners and business owners to gun down burglars. And in the day's coup de grace, the House voted 82-10 to make it lawful for handgun permit holders to ride around with loaded rifles and shotguns in their vehicles. That latter bill, explained the sponsor Henry Fincher, is necessary so as not to inconvenience the fine citizens who wish to go armed in our state. As it is, they have to unload their weapons in their vehicles. What a pain! Of course, it also makes it easier to shoot people as you're riding down the highway in your pickup. But that little issue never came up in the House debate. Instead, lawmakers worried a lot that the bill discriminates against all the people who don't have handgun permits. They'll still have to unload their weaponry in their vehicles. Is that fair? Fincher said he understood the concerns and he'd like to let people keep their guns loaded as they're "going down the road to check on the cows" because they "might run into snakes or whatnot" and feel the need to blaze away at the reptiles. But he persuaded the House to vote on his bill and loosen gun laws later yet again to accommodate those without handgun permits. Rep. Jeanne Richardson had the audacity to suggest that there's no real need to change the law at all. "I really don't see what the problem is with keeping your gun in your car and your ammunition in the trunk. That's a very safe plan." No one even bothered to respond to such a strange opinion, and she sat back down.

Keep your eyes peeled, oh great media watchdog.
Please report on the blood running in the streets. Please report on the skyrocketing violence that results from this legislation. Please report on the children and poodles that will be killed in record numbers as a result of these bills.
Or you could just admit your biased ignorance.

"but there's no point in taking any risks with our Second Amendment freedoms."
Indeed not, since, just like all other individual rights, they are unconditional and absolute.

JL,
Brilliant post. This "man", Jeff Woods, is a freaking joke. My guess is that he thinks he is some sort of John Stewart of liberal rag blogs but his constant whining about this issue is getting pretty tiresome.
He has yet to address the FACT that permit holders are statistically more law abiding than cops and non-permit holders.
That is to mean...HE is more dangerous to the TN population than the 10s of thousands of permit holders.
Fact.

Kevin - this shining jewel of MSM 'objectivity', Jeff Woods, is without a doubt an arrogant, whiny, lemming-like, gutless little party-line bootlicker possessing absolutely no inherent qualities of self-determination that classic Western Civilization would assign to the baseline definition of being a 'man'. He is nothing more than a cultural and intellectual leper, and should be treated as such.

Jeff Woods is able to write this crap because of the First Amendment. The First Amendment is protected by the Second Amendment.

The guy who wrote this blog seems pretty scared of law-abiding people who are able to defend themselves.
755 of all gun crime in the US is committed by Blacks. And they don't care what the law is.

You are an abject idiot! If someone was planning on killing a person with a rifle (Which has and always will be illegal) Do you think they are going to worry about whether or not it is legal to drive down the road with it loaded?

Is this article suppose to be news or an opinion piece?
1)Mr Woods needs to understand that criminals are not stopped by legislation. That is why they are called criminals.
2)An unloaded weapon in a car is absolutely useless in preventing a carjacking.....think about it.....
3) Instead of being afraid of the good guys with legal weapons we should all worry about the court system that keeps letting violent criminals back out on the streets over and over again.

Miss Woods, you are on the fringe element here. You're an extremist.
Not to mention entirely dishonest. You attacked many straw laws here. Perhaps you should try acquainting yourself with reality.

LOL. The "author" of this article is living in a fantasy land. What a joke. Such poor research and opinion. But, he's a liberal...translation: they hate the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution.

Liberals don't just hate the 2nd Amendment, they hate the whole Constitution as it was written. They constantly want to rewrite it, excluding absolute rights and including things like abortion and gay marriage.

Jeff,
The evil lawmakers have now taken away the last restrictions that the criminal element had of bringing violence down on the general public. We all know that before these laws were passed those criminals were prevented from having loaded weapons in their car. Now they can ride around uninhibited by law and do their dirty deeds. Oh the humanity!!

Looks like Mr Woods would probably have a good time in Comisar Obama's utopian America. Nice to know all that public money went to a good education that you have evidently washed out with liberal-group-think.

Just a note about guns and bars. Our son was shot and killed at the Black Diamond in Memphis on 1/11/2005. He never owned a gun and was not left handed. There were no formal investigations, no one talked to us not hommicide nor the Police Dept., nor
M. E.s' office. We just went to Memphis to have a wake and that was it! It took 14 months just to get a police report out of them. No DNA, no testing, nothing. Don't ever allow guns in bars for anything except owner protection. All we wanted was justice. All we have are his ashes. We will always carry ours when we visit for our protection. Don't get killed in Memphis because they just don't care.
