Gov. Phil Bredesen says his state budget recommendation is "painful but fair." He predicts we'll wind up more than $1 billion in the hole this year and $800 million next year. Deputy Gov. John Morgan predicts it'll be three years before we collect more tax money than last year before the economy cratered.
All this depressing news comes this morning from Senate Democratic leader Jim Kyle. "This has never happened," he says. Here's something else that's never happened. We've never gotten a budget briefing via Twitter. Kyle was
twittering this morning from the governor's breakfast meeting with the legislative leadership.
In his own Twitter, Sen. Eric Stewart praises Kyle for twittering. "He brings new meaning to open government with his up to to minute tweets," Stewart tweets.
